Among the notable pioneers at Cay enne's Golden Jubilee and Frontier Days Celebration is Buck Greatm, of Atlantic City, Wyo., Greatrix in 1868 settled at Atlantic City, whicti then was in Carter county, Dakota Territory. In 1869 the Territory of Wyoming was created and Atlantic City was included in the sub-division called Sweetwater county. In 1884 the County of Fremont was created from the notbern part of Sweetwater county and Atlantic City was includ ed In the new county. Finally, in 1890, Wyoming was admitted to statehood and Greatrix then achiev ed the distinction of having lived in two territories and one State and three counties and yet never to have moved his domicile. Old Furnace Picnic. The annual picnic at Old Furnace, near Bessemer City, will be held on Saturday, July 28th. There will be music by the Bessemer City Band, baseball and various other amuse ments. Hoffman, of Palo Alto, Cal., who have been visit ing at Mount Holly, Gastonia and .Lincolnton for two weeks, will leave Charlotte this morning on their re turn to the west. They will go by way, of Durham to Washington and New York, thence to Tacoma, Wash., to visit Mrs. Hoffman's mother. Mr. Hoffman Is a native of Lincoln county and was educated at Trinity college, graduating in 1907. He was state news editor of The Observer tor two years before going west. Schneider DEATHS HASKELL FLANAGAN. Great sorrow was oocasisned here esterday morning by the announce ment that Mr. Haskell Flanagan, manager of the local plant of the Texas Oil Company, had died at 4:4" m. in the Fennell Infirmary at Rock Hill, S. C. following an onera- ion for appendicitis performed only few hours before bv Dr. Fenneli. Few of his friends here knew that he was ill. On Sunday, the 15th. he went to the home of his parents ai Bowling Green, suffering from an at tack of appendicitis. His physicians found that his condition was not fa vorable for an operation and he was removed to the Fennell Infirmary where, it was hoped, he would be in condition within a few days to under go an operation. All the Indications were that he was improving and tae physicians decided to operate. How ever, they found his appendix in such condition that they realized at once that he could not live. Young Flan agan revived from the anaesthetic and talked for some time with his mother before lapsing into final un consciousness. He gave his ring to his mother and enquired if the oper ation had been successful. Deceased would have been 25 years old in September. For several months past he had been manager of the. Texas Oil Company's local plant, with which he held a position for some time prior to being made man ager. He was for a year or more pri or to going with the Texas Company with H. M. VanSleen, the jeweler. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Flanagan, of Bowling Green, who survive together with two brothers, Speight and Deaver Flanagan, and four sisters, Misses Ida, Pearl, Ellen and Eunice Flanagan. Funeral services were held at 12:30 o'clock this afternoon at Bowling Green Presbyterian church, of which he had been a member since boy hood. A large congregation or friends and relatives was present to pay a last tribute of respect to his memory. Rev. A. A. Mclean, his pastor, officiated. Interment was m the cemetery at that place. Quite a good many friends from Gastonia at tended the funeral. Mr. Flanagan vas a young man of many sterling qualities and was held in very high regard by all who knew him.
