O PAGE FIVE o r Social Items - Personals PHONE 3521 Limar Sue Gatlin, Utile daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Gatlin, has been seriously ill since Sunday. Dr. and Mrs. Marcus R. Smith and O'ltwo children returned Sunday from -a two weeks vacation at Ingrams Beach. Mrs. Cyrus Thompson of Raleigh is visiting her sister, Mrs. John McNeill. Mrs. Paul Dickson left Thursday for Blowing Rock. She expects to be away two or three weeks. ' Capt. Paul Dickson of Camp Davis was at home Saturday and Sunday. Lt. Herbert McLean left Tuesday for Ft. Eustis where he will attend anti-aircraft school. Mrs. Christian Davis, clerk of the ration board is spending her vacation it her home this week. Her son, Bill Davis, of the Army is here on furlough. Boz Bethune of Wilmington was home for the week-end. H. L. Gatlin, Jr., was in Mayport, Fla. the first of the week. Mrs. Ed. Bethune spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Arch Cuirie. Mrs. Mary Snead Halperin and daughter Sandra are spending this week at Hotel New Yorker, New York City. They will visit friends and rel atives in Natick and Wellesley, Mass. and Atlantic City, N. J. before return ing to Raeford to make their home for the winter. Mrs. William Lamont, Jr. of Ft. Moultrie was in town Friday. She came to get Pat who has been spend ing some time with her grandmother. Laurie McEachern of Raleigh spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Arch McEachern of Red Springs. Bishop of Mi ami, Fla., announce the birth of a daughter, Patrica Elane, June 21st. Mrs. Bishop was the former Elaine Mclnnis of Raeford. Mrs. N. A. Mclnnis is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Bishop in Miami. O Mrs. George Kelly of Greensboro is spending this week with Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Teal. Newton-Wood Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Wood of Rock fish announce the marriage of their daughter, Margaret to 1st Sgt. E. D. Newton of Camp Claiborne, La. The marriage took place in Bennettsville, S. C, July 26, 1943. They will make their home in Lou isiana where Sgt. Newton is now sta tioned. , O Mrs. Louis Peters is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Christy Grivakis in Miami, Fla. Lt. Col. W. L. Poole was in town a few days last week. He was on his way to Ft. Eustis. Donald Harvey of the Spencer watch making school was at home over the week end. Mrs. Daniel Jones, returned to her home in Mount HoDy after spending ten days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Barrington. Mrs. Hunter Wood and children, Betty, Patsy and Katherine returned to their home in Charleston, S. C. af ter spending several weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Barring ton. Mrs. Wood received a cabelgrani from her husband while here, that he arrived safely in Australia. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Snead and San dy spent the week end at the Snead home. Lf. and Mrs. K. A. McKethan from Camp Campbell, Ky. are visiting their parents, Rev. and Mrs. W. F. Trawick of Raeford, and Mr. and Mrs. A. S. McKethan, of Fayetteville. Mrs. Mc Kethan, mother of Lt. McKethan, re turned with them after visits in Okla noma, Kentucky and Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. East, Jr., and children of Durham visited their sis ter and brother, Rev. and Mrs. W. F. The Officers' Wives' club was intro duced to three very attractive ludies last Thursday, Mrs. R. A. Reese, Mrs. Robert E. Bard and Mrs. F. Bowen. Lt. Col. and Mrs. Reese of Cincinnati, O. have been at The Pines for the past week and are hoping to find an apartment or house here. Col. Reese is stationed at Pope Field with the 60th Wing (whatever that means) . . Lt. and Mrs. Bard of Philadelphia, Pa., who have been in Raeford for two weeks have just moved from the Pines into H L. Gatlin. Sr.'s home. Lt. Bard is with the 513th Signal Company of the 13th Airborne Mrs. Bowen was not a new acquain tance to all of us; she and her daugh ter returned recently from a month's visit with her family in Little Rock, Ark .... Just heard that the Mc Crearys are spending a week in Fla. (muh old home state) .... We have another blessed event to announce this week Capt. and Mrs. Rudolph Jones (at J. W. Walker's) are shout ing "It s a precious baby girl." Lit tle girl Jones arrived at Post Hospi tal on Tuesday, August 3 . . . . The Jones have had as their guest, Capt. Jones aunt. Miss Jones .... We are sorry to learn that Capt. Melvin Ham blin has been hospitalized at Fort Bragg. He is expecting to go to Camp Croft, S. C. in the near future. Mrs. Hamblin and her little son have ivicuiarmia nrme and have gone to Mrs. Hamblin's mother's home in Lockhart, Tex. Incidentally, for the benefit of interested parties, the apartment has already been spoken for ... . Lt. Darnell's sister, Mrs. Melva Burton and Mrs. Darnell's mother, Mrs. J. E. Billings, wno have been visiting here left last week. Mrs. Burton returned to Denison, Tex. and Mrs. Billings to Muskogee, Okla Lt. and Mrs. Thompson were in Ral eigh last week-end and Helen is all smiles over that lovely new ring her husband purchased for her .... Ar thur James LeBourgeois, Mrs. El dridge Naugher's 10 year old son, has joined the Naughers in Raeford. He has been going to school in Texas, hence the cowboy boots. O TEAL CASWELL Miss Gladys Caswell of Park ton and Willi am Woodrow Teal of Rae ford were married M.mday evening at Bennettsville, S. C. Mr. Teal is the son of Mr. and Mrs. ;J. L. Teal of Raeford and is em ployed at the Shipyards at Norfolk. Va. Mr. Teals's mother and sister, Miss Mary Elizabeth Teal, attended the ceremony. Mildouson News The Arabia Home Demonstration Club held its regular meeting at Hen drix Grill last Tuesday. "Busy Day" meals were discussed. The Arabia club entertained the Dundarrach club with a picnic supper which was en joyed very much. Canning for the schools was plann ed. Arabia's club prepared 54 quarts of soup lost Thursday and Miss Hall had the school cannery at Raeford to cook it. The Dundarrach club will have a day to can also. Mrs. Lillie McMillan of Saluda, S. C. is visiting her sister, Mrs. S. P. Traywick, who has been very sick. She is much better now we are glad to report. Bernice Bostic of the Navy Cee Bees is at home on furlough from San Diego, Cal. He has been in service in the South Seas for several months past. Coolidge Sandy is also a Cee Bee. He is in the Aleutian Islands on du ty now. He hopes to be home some time soon. Mrs. Gerald Richards and son, Ronny of Manteo are at home for a few weeks. Mrs. Estaline Erin and daughter have returned from the hospital at Fort Bragg. The revival meeting at Ephesus church closed Saturday night. The services were well attended, and Rev. Mr. Johnson from Cedar Creek assist ed the pastor. His sermons were very inspiring. The revival meeting will begin at Sandy Grove church Sunday night. Rev. Jones from St. Pauls will do the preaching. The public is cordially invited to attend. There will be night services only. Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Barlow from Mannassas, Va.. are visiting Mr. and Mrs. L, A. Sandy and family. Archie Franklin Bristow has been medically discharged from the armed services. He saw duty in North Afri ca. He was in the initial landing at Oran. He says he likes the British very much but doesn't care so much for the Arabs. Ell McGougan is very much im proved after a long illness. Johnnie McGougan and Belton, Jr. Beasley who recently underwent ap pendicitis operations are both at home and doing well. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Yates of Dun darrach and John Lester of Raeford spent Sunday with Mrs. D. L. Mc Gougan and family. O Miss Mary Lee Peterson returned home Tuesday after spending a few days in Burlington with Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Mathesly. Mrs. James W. Hewitt is spending some days in Greensboro visiting her sister, Miss, Lura Cameron. Will Close School Cannery Aug. 12-13 The school cannery, operated at the Grammar School building for the gen eral public, will be closed on next Thursday and Friday, August 12 and 13, it was stated yesterday. Mr. Dowd and the home economics instructor, who operate the cannery, will be attending a district meeting of vocational teachers in Lumber-ton. Individuals are urgently requested to plan their canning for Tuesdays and Thursdays so that canning for the school lunch rooms may be done the other days of the week. Only vegeta bles brought before 1 P. M. will be canned on the day brought in, it was stated. hi in1" Army Discharges Recorded By County Registrar Men being discharged from the i army and other branches of the ser vice now may have their discharges recorded in the Office of the Reg istrar of Deeds, according to an action ! of the Board of County Commissioners Monday. , The resolution adopted was similar to the one recorded a number of years ago which permitted discharges from service in the first World War be made a matter of official county record.
