Brandon an nounce the engagement of their daughter Martha Louise to Lt. Ray mond A. Muench, of Louisville, Ky. The wedding will take place in Rae ford Oct. 9. O MRS. BROWN AND MRS. BRANDON HOSTESSES. Mrs. G. W. Brown and Mrs. L. B. Brandon entertained their rook club in a most delightful manner, Friday evening at Mrs. Brandon's hume at Oakdale Farm. Guests were invited for dinner at 8 o'clock. Covers were laid f 'r twelve and a delicious dinner was very much ly enjoyed. Rook was played at three tables with Mrs. J. R. Hampton win ning the floating prize. Fall flowers were effectively used in the living room and dining room. Mrs. Clyde Upchurch and Mrs. Ju lian Johnson were guests other than club members. O MRS. MCDONALD HOSTESS TO BRIDGE CLUB Mrs. K. A. McDonald entertain ed her bridge club Thursday even ing at her home on the Fayetteville Road. Two tables of bridge were in play. After several progressions Mrs. K. B. I ANNl'AL PICNIC OF BWC TONIGHT The annual picnic of the Business Woman's circle of the auxiliary of the Presbyterian church will be held in tie club-rocms of the church this evening at 6:30 o'clock. O MRS. McGOOGAN VISITING MRS. WILLIAM Cl'RTIS Mrs. J. A. McGoogan is spending sore time at Gatlinburg, Tenn., I where she is the guest of Mrs. Wil liam Curtis and her family. The I Curtis family occupied an apartment in the McGoogan home while Lt. I Curtis was stationed at Fort Bragg. Recent news fr:m Lt. Curtis reveals I that he is now interned at Prison I Camp No. 7 in the Philippines. He I was captured at the fall of Corregi- dor. O YOl'NG PEOPLE HAVE SCAVENGER HUNT. A large number of the young people of the c mmunity were entertained at a scavenger party Tuesday evening in the club rooms of the Presbyterian church. After having much fun in the hunt which to-k them to some unusual places about town, various games were played under the direc tion of Miss Audrey Brunkhurst, ed ucational supervisor of the church. Delicious refreshments were served the gr. up. The party was concluded with group singing of several favorite songs. O ATTEND COUNCIL MEET OF CLUBS Mrs. A. D. Gore and Mrs. R. L. Murray are attending the council meeting of the North Carolina Fed eration of Womans Clubs which is being held in Raleigh this week. O BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Arch . Gentry of Laurinburg, Rt No. 2, announce the birth of a daughter. Judy Catherine, at the Laurinburg Hospital on Sept. 8. O Mrs. John Culbreth of Red Springs has returned home after undergoing two operations at Pitman Hospital in Fayetteville. She is improving. Little Miss Lena Terrell will come home next week after spending sev eral weeks with her cousins, Libby. Patty, and Harman Chapin at Lill-ington. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Terrell and son, Pee Wee. stopped over to visit Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Terrell on their wak back to Durham, Sunday, after spending their vacation at Wrights ville Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Carroll of Norfolk, were week end guests of Mrs. Carroll's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Al fred Quick. ' Mrs. J. C. Thomas, Iris Thomas, and Mrs. D. H. Hodgin spent last Friday in Raleigh. Beryl Smith of Macon, Ga., spent the past week end rere with Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Potter. Mrs. Paul Dicks;;n, Jr., and Paul III spent two days with Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Black in Greansboro this week. They and "Buddy" will leave Satur day to join Capt. Dickson, who is at Camp Stewart, Ga. They have taken a house at Richmond Hill. Miss Lila McLean of Laurel Hill has been visiting her sister, Mrs. W. T. Covington. Mrs. Cyrus Thompson is in Char leston this week with her sister, Mrs. T. E. Bowers. Mrs. Bower's under went a major operation last Thursday. Miss Martha Brandon, who is visit ing her parents spent the past sever al days in Charlotte. Marcus Dew has been very much indisposed for the past week and is confined to his room. Miss Nancy Johston of Kingsport, Tenn., was the guest of Miss Jose phine McLauchlin for several days last week. Miss McLauchlin enter tained for her very informally with a "coffee" Saturday afternoon. Misses Mary Lewis, Josephine Mc Lauchlin, and Mollie Cameron, and Miss Nancy Johnson returned to Sa lem College this week. Mrs.H. A. CameiDn took them anri mari a etinrt visit to Mrs. Allan McGee. Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, Jr., visited her people in Gastonia the past week end. Hugh McLauchlin who is training at Duke, Navy V-12 was at home Sunday. Other guests of Mr. and Mrs. Currie McLauchlin the past week were, Dr. W. C. McLauchlin of Bur lington, N. C, Rev. Ed. S. Currie of Richmond, Va., and Mr. and Mis. E. C. Hcins of Sanford. O With the Army People Mrs. L. M. Green has been visiting at her home in Arkansas, while Capt. Green was taking a special course at Fort Benning. O. Bradley. The Cooks expect to make their home here while he is stationed at Camp Mackall. Lt. Graydort Bates, of Camp Car son, Col., is visiting his mother and sister, at the home of Lt. and Mrs. Andreson in Giles Apartments. Lt. and Mrs. Joe Thompson have returned from a 10-day leave spent with homefolks. The next meeting of the Officers Wives Club will be held with Mrs. Allan Henson and Mrs. Jack Clift, at Mrs. Henson's home in the Robert Gatling house, on September 23.
