CAMERON CLUB MEET TOGETHER The December meeting of the fhaiuinade Music Club, the Litera ture, and Educational Departments of (he Racford Woman's Club was j 'int ly at the home of Mrs. Julian John son Tuesday, December 21 at 3:30 o'clock. Miss Agnes Mao Johnson. Mesdames H. A. Cameron, Clyde Up church, Sr., A. L. O'Priant, Marcus Smith. II. L. Gatlin, Sr., and J. H. Aintn were hostesses. Mrs. Johnson's home was attract ively arranged with mven, white, and red yuletide decorations. Immediately alter the arrival of the club members, the hostesses ser ved Russian tea and dainty cakes. Mrs. Tommie Cpchurch, Chairman 1- f Educational Department, presided over the niectiny. Mrs. W. B. Mr. Lunch lin was in charge of selling v.arsates to club members. Mrs. H. A. Cameron thanked the club mem bers for the attractive boxes that they had made for Camp Mackall hospit al boys. Mrs. J. W. Currie and Miss Flora Boyce told the members of the Club who had been making cakes for the Soldiers' Center how grate ful the soldiers were to have home made cake served t them when they visited the center. Mrs. A. K. Currie led the program using for her topic " Christmas Art and Customs In Other Lands". Mrs. Currie told how some of the great artists were inspired by the Nativity scene and thereby produced master pieces in art. Then she discussed the Christmas customs of Russia, and this was follewed by Russian songs sung by members of the Hoke High school glee club. Mrs, Currie also explained the Christmas customs of Germany, Czechoslovakia, Holland, France, and Poland. The members of Music Club sang Polish Christmas carols, and all the club members join ed it: singing a French carol. Mrs. dime also emphasized that the first Christmas story was still the greatest, and the club members joined in reciting this story, Luke 2- 8:16. The singing of Joy to the World concluded the program. HONORS SON'S BRIDE Mrs. H. A. Cameron gave a very lovely tea last Thursday afternoon in : honor of Mrs. Herbert Cameron, bride of a few days. The Cemeron home was a cheerful . contrast to the bitter cold outdoors and th se w ho called found a warm welcome. The Christmas motif was elaborately earned out in every room and the decorations were beautiiul.i The reception hall was in silver and green. The north living room, in which the icceiving line stood, had a .rantcl ar aiv.ement of roi.i an. I green with- lighted l.ipcr.!. A brilliantly, lighted Christmas tree tond in the Low window n ok. Mrs. Julian Joiin son and Mrs. Tommie Upchurch vel- . coined the Rucst- and Mrs. Cameron 1 introduced Mrs. Hubert Cameron. In : the receiving line also were Mrs. j Thomas Cemeron and Miss Mollie ' Cameron. Mrs. Lewis Upchurch and, Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, Jr. directed to ' the dining room over which Mrs. J.' C. Thomas and Mrs. R. B. Lewis pre- j sided. Mantel and buflet were bank- j ed with native greens, clusvers of red j berries and red candles which were , lighte'd. ! A Christmas center piece of beauty graced the dining room table which was covered with a cut work cloth. Mrs. Allan McGee. seated at one end poured tea, and Mrs. James McDon ald, a recent bride poured coffee. A variety of delicious sandwiches, as sorted pastries and salted nuts were served by Misses Elsie Upchurch Marie Cameron, Mary Lewis and Mar. ion Lewis. Saying goodbyes in the family liv ing room were Mrs. June Johnson and Mrs. Bill Upchurch: O MRS. McNEILL ENTERTAINS BOOK CLUB Mrs. Hector B. McNeill was h rstess to the John Charles McNeill Book Club at her country home near Wa gram on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. R. A. Matheson, Sr. and Mrs. Arthur Matheson were guests from Raeford enjoving this delightful hospitalitv. O Miss Aris Shankle is spending the holidays in Florida. 1 MR. DEW ILL j M. W. Mrs. Aganora Andrews is visiting her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jones W'ho live in Mt. Holly instead of Salisbury as was erroneous ly stated in a recent issue of the News-Journal. Miss Josephine Hall, Hoke home demonstration agent, is quite sick this week Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Upchurch were unable to get reservati ns earli er than the 26th at which time they expect to leave lor Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Mrs. W..J. Latigston of Kinston was the guest of her grandson, Edward Langslon, last week. Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Thompson of Ral eigh will spend Christmas week at the McEachern home. Chandler Roberts for several months moved to the John Murdock McDuffie apartment, vacated by the Owens. Miss Aileen Crowder will be the guest of Mrs. H. L. Gatlin, Jr. Christ mas day and Sunday. Miss Maude Poole arrived Monday from Belmont to spend the holidays with her parents. Mr. and Mrs, Hugh Lowe are expected Friday. i The Officer's Wives Club met with ; Mrs. Clark in one of the Cameron Du plex apartments last Thursday. There were many new comers present, all of whom are looking for apartments in Raelord. There will be no meeting ..J this club next Thursday. With The Army People There was quite a turnover among the army personnel the pa.-t week. i Lt. and Mrs. Clifford have given up ' their apartment at Mrs. A. J. Mrs. A. C. L. Hill. Mrs. Carrie Nash of Goldsboro is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Neill A. McDonald. Mrs. McDonald expects to have her sister, Mrs. Claude Bishop and Mr. Bishop of Greensboro for Christmas day. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hancock and chil dren will spend the holidays in Greens boro with Mr. Hancock's people. All the college boys and girls are at home for the holidays. They have in teresting tales to tell of travel home, crowded busses and trains and even thumbing, but all looking at the in conveniences with the same good na ture. Among the business men away from their places of business on account of flu were Neill A. McDonald and David Smith and J. L. Teal. tree is up, garlanded in wreaths of tinsel, aflare with lights that glow like fireflies. There it stands in the window, sparkling with all the borrowed glamour of elfland. With this glowing background to remind us, we are rcudy to speak our piece.
