Due to the prevailing conditions of sickness among the pejple in the town it has been found necessary to call off the banquet for the young people scheduled by the Presbyterian Church for Friday evening. The banquet was to have. been in honor of the college group home for the holidays. DANCE AT CAMP MACKALL FRIDAY NIGHT The last dance for the 1 1th Airborne Division will be held at Camp Mack all, Friday night, December 31. Since this is New Years Eve all girls attend ing the dance are asked to go formal. The bus will stop for the Raeford girls at 7 o'clock at the Soldiers' Center. Mrs. George Smith of Greenv ille, N. C, who formerly made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Lee Dethune for a year, was a pleasant visitor in their home this week. WILLIAMS-McLEAN Mrs. Richmond Edgar Williams of Wingate has announced the engage ment of her daughter, Rachel to Sgt. Woodrow McLean of Raeford and Charleston, S. C. Mrs. R ibert Elmer and son, Bobby, of Minneapolis, Minn., have arrived in Raeford to spend several weeks with the Rev. and Mrs. W. L. Maness. Mrs. Elmer's husband is now station ed at the Seymour-Johnson airbase at Goldsboro. Mr. and Mrs. Will Lamont and Mrs. Will McLauchlin spent the holidays with Capt. and Mrs. Bill Lamont at Fort Moultrie. They returned to Raeford Tuesday. Mrs. Paul Dickson Jr. was called to Greensboro on account of the very se rious illness of her mother, Mrs. C. L. Black. A prominent lawyer earned $34 extra during a week-end. A clerk getting $2 a week while studying for his chosen work earned more than six times that amcunt in a few hours. A businessman made $21 in 12 hours. Others fared equally well. These men offered their services to speed hand ling of vital war cargoes, but the un ion insisted 'that they be paid full rates. John Wiltshire, 62 year old. of Sydney, Australia, gave three pints of blood in three weeks. Once the doc- tor put a blunt needle in his arm and couldn't get the blood out until a new needle was inserted. A few days af ter the second bio d donation a pal from Balmuin needed a transfusion and late at night Wiltshire supplied the blood. Wiltshire's record, up to ' date, is four gallons and live-and-a-fifth'pints.
