JOHN McGOUGAN SLOWLY IMPROVING The condition of Mrs. John Mc- Gougan is as satisfactory as could be expected considering how seriously 1" she was injured in the wreck at ;3outh Hill while enroute to Rich mond. It will be necessary for her to remain in Rex hospital at Raleigh for several weeks yet. The doctors in attendance think she is probably out of danger. Mrs. Baumgartner is also getting along nicely at Post Hospital No. 1, Fort Bragg 0 COLLEGE GIRLS HAVE A VERY GAY WEEK The girl's college set had many delightful informal dinners, lunch, eons, and "coffees" during the holi days. Oh Thursday, Elsie Upchurch was hostess to the crowd with a luncheon, on Friday morning Jose hine McLauchlin had a breakfast, and Mollie Cameron brought the festi vities to a close on Monday evening with a dinner party. This was a New Year's affair. Table appoint ments and decorations were attrac tively suggestive of the season. Cov ers were laid for ten. The freshmen college girls had a round of parties, and get-to-gethers. Betsy Ann Cole and Leonora Currie were hostesses at delightful informal affairs and Faye Baker had open house for the crowd one evening. Monroe of Rockfish announce the marriage of their daughter. Gladys, to Minor McGougan of Lumber Bridge on Sat unday, December 23. at Bennetts- ville, S. C. Mrs. McGougan is a graduate of Hoke High school and for the past two years has been office clerk for the Lumbee River Corporation in Raeford. Mr. McGougan is a graduate of Parkton high school and is the son of Mrs. Allie Kate McGougan and the late D. R. McGougan. The couple will make their home near Lumber Bridge. The condition of Dan McKeithan, reunions were .who has been very ill with pneumonia, held as usual but the vacant places this year took away much of the gaiety of the season. 0 EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETS WITH MRS. McLAUCHLIN The Executive Board of the Wo man's Auxiliary of the Presbyterian church met with Mrs. J. W. Mc Lauchlin at the Pines on Monday afternoon. After the meeting was adjourned, a delightful social hour was enjoyed during which time cof fee and cake was served from an at tractively appointed table. Mrs. Harry Lindeman of Spartanburg, poured coffee. UDC MEETS WITH blRS. McLAUCHLIN The Raeford Chapter of the U. D. C. met Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. J. W. McLauchlin with Mrs. William McFadyen and Mrs. Carlton Nunnemaker joint hostesses. Following the business session a historical program was presented. Mrs. McLauchlin tol'd of meeting in Shanghai, China, one of General Lee's friends the last person for whom he rendered a service before he was stricken, previous to his death. Refreshments were served to twelve members on beautifully appointed ti tles in the dining room. is now considered better. Capt. and Mrs. Bane who had an apartment with Mrs. H. A. Cameron during the past year returned to Rae ford from a leave spent at their home in Minnesota and are now at the Pines. Mrs. Neil Senter, who spent the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hallie Gatlin. has returned to Albemarle, where she is teaching. Mr. and Mrs. James Hampton and children of Washington, D. C, spent the holidays in Raeford with Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hampton. Mr. and Mrs. Hampton, Sr. returned to Wash ington with them, going especially to see S 1-C Robert Hampton, who was at home on furlough. They returned to Raeford Tuesday of this week. LATON-WILLIS Miss Lottie Mae Willis and Mr Harold Laton were united in mar riage at Bennettsville, S. C. on Sun day December 24. Mrs. Laton the daughter of Mrs. Ruth Willis and holds a position with the Hoke County Board of Education. Mr. Laton is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Laton and is now employed at Fort Bragg, o Mrs. Phillip Hurt, who holds an important clerical position at Fort Bragg has a three month's release. She will spend the time with her mother, Mrs. Bettie Noyes, in Liberal Mo. Mr. and Mrs. Hurt leased the Clyde Campbell house (afterwards purchased by June Johnson) when they first moved to Raeford several years ago. She continued t "ve there and worked at Bragg after her husband entened the service. Among the girls going back to college this week are: Betsy Ann Cole to Woman's College UNC, Mol lie Cameron and Josephine McLauch lin to Salem, Faye Baker and Bar bara Stevens to Meredith, Catherine Anne Walker to Mary Washington Mary McBryde to Woman's College, Margaret McMillan to Farmville, Va., and Leonora Currie to Queens. Mrs. Harry Lindeman is returning to Spartanburg today after a ten day visit with her daughter Mrs. Macomson and other relatives and friends in Raeford. Guests in the home of Mrs. J D. Graham during Christmas were: Mr and Mrs. R. A. Graham and children of Hamlet. Mr. and Mrs. Hudson Graham and children of Pilot Moun tain, Jean Graham of Hickory, Hazel Grey McFarland, cadet nurse at Rex Hospital, Raleigh, and Hilda McFar land of Aberdeen. Graham and Fred Culbreth and families of Hamlet spent Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. T. F. B. Nixon gave a farewell supper Thursday night for their son, James, who left for in duction at Fort Bragg the following day. A number of neighbors and friends enjoyed their hospitality, after which the younger set went to Raeford to attend the movies. Mrs. John Combe of Raleigh, spent the holidays with her mother. Mrs Hattie Pendergrass and sister, Mrs. Dora Lesley. E. M. Ellis of Bob Jones college, Cleveland, Tenn., and Hilton Seals, of Chapel Hill, ministerial students, spent their vacations with home folks.
