Mr. and Mrs. Jeptha Peele of Greensboro spent the w^ek-end with Mr. Ed Peele. J MBS. CAMERON AND MES. LEWIS LUNCHEON HOSTESSES Mrs. >H. A. Cameron and Mrs. R. B. Lewis were hostesses-on Tuesday to a number of their friends when they entertained with luncheon followed by bridge at the home of Mrs. Lewis. Flower arrangements were pretty and most effective; mixed flowers of mid-summer hues predominating. Covers for four were laid at each of five small tables and the dining room table. A color scheme of green and gold w^s carried out. The hostesses were assisted in serving the lovely two course meal by their daughters, Misses Marian Lewis and Mollie Cam eron. Mrs. J. W. Nash of Golds boro came in for lunch. Bridge was enthusiastically played dur ing the afternoon with Mrs. Paul Dickson, Sr. winning high score prize and Mrs. Benton Thomas receiving a consolation gift for low score. BRIDGE & ROOK ENJOYED AT MRS. JOHNSONS On Wednesday afternoon^ of last week Mrs. Julian Johnson and Miss Agnes Mae Johnson en- tertE^ned witib the third of a series of parties. On this occasion there were fbur tables playing bridge and two rook. In the bridge game Mrs. Lawrence McNeill won the high score prize and Mrs. Tommy Upchurch won the prize in rook. The hostesses gave'attra ctive gifts to their three out-of- town guests, Mrs. J. W. Thomas, Miss Elizabeth Hoyle and Mrs. Frank LaLocus of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. ' After the tables were cleared, covers were laid for four at each table, and a delicious supper in two courses was served. 0- OUTDOOR SUPPER ENJOYED LOCAL WOMEN ATTENDING AUXILIARY training SCHOOL Mrs. H. C. McLauchlin, presi dent of Fayetteville Presbyterial, Mrs. Dan Campbell and Mrs. W. B. Heyward, delegates, Mrs. J. W. McLauchlin and Miss Flora Boyce are attending the Woman’s Auxi liary Training School of the Pres byterian Church at Montreat. More than a thousand women are in Montreat for the training school, the largest number of registrants ever enrolled. The treasurer of the Committee on Woman’s work reported at the annual meeting that $133,927.75 had been contributed at the “Birthday Offering” in May. The offering was for Home Missions Work this year. : 0 G. M. MOON IN ALAMANCE HOSPITAL Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Muench left Tuesday for their home in Louisville, Ky. after a ten day visit with their son and daughter- in-lawi Mr. and Mrs. Ray Muench. Dr. and Mrs. G. W. Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Wooten and son spent Sunday in Bladen County. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Md!..auchlin spent the week-end in Gastonia with Mrs. McLauchlin’s mother, Mrs. Hanna. Mrs. Herbert) McLean is on Vacation this week from Collins Department Store. Rev. Ifr. and Mrs. W. 7. Clegg of Farmvflle, N. C. and Mr*. Twn Grant ot Rocky, Mount were spend-the-day guests of Mr, and Mrs. Clyde Upchurch on Monday. Mrs. J. M. McDuffie is visiting Mrs. A. B. Manry at Ocean View this week. Mr. John Parker spent the week-end in Western, N. C. Miss Louise Lundy of Charlotte was at home for the week-end with her parents. Cecil Teal,, Linotype operator with the Fayetteville Observer, James Currie of the Raeford Post Office staff and Milton Camp bell, local groceryman are vaca tioning this week in New York and Washington. Miss Myra Mott, nurse at Watts Hospital in Durham, spent the week-end in Raeford. C. H. Giles was in Chicago last week to attend the Road Builders Association meeting. He spent the week-end at home. Alice Sutton Matheson and Betty Upchurch spent the day Monday at Bogue Sound. They went with Tommy Upchurch. ❖ Raeford Theatre ❖ Theatre Opens At 5:00 P. M. Miss Mary Up church Lewis to Mr. Charles Watson Lawhon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Sterling Lawhon of Fayetteville, N. C. The wedding will take place in the fall. 0 UPCHURCHES HONOR HOUSE GUESTS Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Lewis en tertained five young couples from Fayetteville on Saturday evening at an outdoor supper. These were especial friends of Miss Mary Lewis who was at home from Raleigh for the week-end. Misses Agnes Mae Johnson and Mollie Cameron were Raeford girls present. A delicious supper, attractively served in the back yard sitting room was very much enjoyed. 0 CLUB MEETS WITH MRS. GIBSON On Tuesday evening of last week Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Up church honored their house guests, MIrs. Thomas, Miss Hoyle and Mrs. LaLocus of Ft. Lauderdale, .Fla. with a barbecue at the air port. , A large number of friends enjoyed the excellent supper and hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Up church. ^0— Miss Elsie Upchurch has re turned to Raeford after a visit to New York and to her sister, Mrs. Tommy Caulk near Washington. Mrs. John Culbreth has received a letter from her son, Pvt. John Culbreth, Jr. saying he had ar rived in the Panama Canal Zone and was feeling fine. Mrs. W. E. Blue and Bill Blue spent Tuesday in Graham with Mrs. G. M. Moon. They went espe cially to see Mr. Moon who fell last Thursday, vvSiile at work, and broke 11 ribs. He is in Alamance Hospital in Burling ton. 0 ^ MRS. SMITH ENTERTAINS OUT-OF-TOWN GUESTS Mrs. W. T. Gibson was hostess to her bridge club on Monday afternoon. There were two tables in play, all club members, with Mrs. Lewis Upchurch a guest of the club. Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, Jr., was awarded high score prize, Mrs. T. B. Lester, Jr., low score prize and Mrs. Lewis Upchurch the floating prize. A dessert course was served before the game. 0 — Mrs. Younger Snead and son. Younger, Jr. returned to their home here Sunday after visiting in Kinston; while Lt. Col. Snead was at camp. Mrs. Marcus Smith gave a small luncheon and bridge last Tuesday in honor of Mrs. Tommy Up church’s sisters, and their friend Mrs. LaLocus. There were eight present. 0 Irving Hubbard, manager of Collins Department Store, is spending several days this week at Myrtle Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Kerr Stevens were in Wilson for the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Davis of Columbia, S. C. were in Raeford over the week-end. Mrs. Dwight Brown and Mrs. A. J. Fuller returned to Raeford last week after a stay of two weeks at Junaluska. They spent two nights while gone with Mr. and Mrs. George Fuller in Hic kory. They also visited the Leo Fullers, in Mt. Holly. Julia Ann and Jim Fuller, Leo’s children, came home with them for a visit. Mrs. Max. Heins and Betty of Sanford visited relatives in Rae ford for several, days last week. Mrs. J. W. Nash.of Goldsboro.is spending this week with her daughter, Mrs. Neill A. McDon ald. Annie McKeithan and Katie Margaret Bouyer are on vacation, this week from (Belk-Hensdale Company. Krug of Pittsburg, Pa. stopped in Raeford Thursday and spent the night with Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Gatlin, Jr. They were enroute frftm Miami Beach, where they had spent a month, to their homc. Dr' Krug (Gapt.) lived in Raeford while stationed at Ft. Bragg. Mrs. E. B. Cole of Fayetteville is spending this week with her son’s family, Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Cole. Catherine Bristow is a guest of Nancy Lee. ■ Miss Jean Midkiff of ,Mt. Airy was the guest last week of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Conoly. Mrs. L. B. He is spend ing this week in Western, N. C. He is from McCall, S. C. Mrs. Ross of Washington, N. C. is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Robert Gatlin. Miss Alice Walker, director of music at the Presbyterian Church, will leave today for Richmond, Va. She will attend the summer school of church music at the Assembly’s training school. There will be no senior choir practice at the church etiher this week or next. Miss Dorothy Bridges, who is taking training at Baker’s Hospi tal, Lumberton, is spending a ten- day vacation with her mother. Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Gordon, and daughter, Nanny Russell of New York are visiting Mrs. Gordon’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Harris near town. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tapp have as their guests this week Mrs. Tapp’s father, H. M. Williams and her sister, Miss Maude Wil liams of Charlotte. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Presson and two children of Monroe brought Mrs. Presson’s mother^ Mrs. Ben nie Cox home this week. Mrs. Cox had spent two weeks with the Pressons. Charles Gordon of Philadelphia joined his wife here this week for a visit.
