HART HONOR GUESTS Miss Billie''McIntyre and Capt. Milo Postel entertained at Glad Acres in honor of Miss Helen Patricia Stuart and Captain Lewis Hart, whose wedding is the social event of this week; and scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Lt. and Mrs. Jack Crooks, recently ■married, shared honors with Miss Stuart and Captain Hart . A delicious buffet supper with barbecued chicken cooked on the outdoor grill, was served from tables placed in the beautiful garden. The nine couples who enjoyed this hospitality were all friends of the host and honorees in the,Air Forces, stationed at Pope Field. Miss Stuapt and Mrs. Crooks were given corsages on their arrival and later in the evening presented with gifts. Miss Stuart’s gift was silver, Mrs. Crooks, china. e — SGT. BLUE HONORED Sgt. Jimmie Blue, who is on leave from Japan where he served two years with the Army Air Forces, was gueet of honor at a dinner party given Tuesday hi^t by Mrs. J. A. Blue and Mrs. Kate Blue Covington. Those present were Sgt. Blue, Mrs. Anna Patch BluCi Clara Anne Blue, Murdoc Pnevost, Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Blue and Mrs. Patsy Williams. 0 SMITH-McINNIS MUSIC CLUB TO MEET IN RALEIGH ■ The Capital District Meeti.ng of the State Federation of IMus.ic Clubs, will be held in Raleigh to morrow' (Friday Sept. 24) in Edenton Street Methodist church. The Raeford Music club is in this district and the President, Mrs. Marshall Thomas,.urges as many members as possible of the local club to attend. Lunch will be served at the church. Miss Aljce Walker will appear on the pro gram. Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. W. R. Barrington, Mrs. A. K. Currie. The club stopped its meetings during tire summer while the faculty members were at their homes. , After scores were totaled high score prizes went to ■ Miss Sarah Blue and Van Hartsell. , Mrs. McFadyen served delicious refreshments consisting of straw berries, cake and coffee, and dur ing the game she served cokes. 0 B & PW CLUB TO MEET TUES. NIGHT week the Woman’s Missionary Union of the Baptist church were hostesses to the members of the church. At this time all members of the W. M. and members of the church were invited to come to the church and bring a gift for the church kitchen and enjoy a social hour. The affair was quite a success. A beautiful new electric range and sink had been installed and someone contributed a kitchen table. Numerous kitchen utensils and gadgets as well as money to buy china were given. Mrs. I. H. Shankle, Sr. and Mrs. B. R. Gatlin poured tea, with which other ac cessories were served. The even ing proved to be a most pleasant one of good fellowship. 0 MRS. A. D. GORE BRIDGE HOSTESS North Carolina for 'the next six months. Mrs. Campbell received a scholarship from the State Board of Health. Miss Nancy Peele of Moore County hospital spent the week end in the home of her father, E. L. Peele. Miss Alma Ferguson left Sun day for Sanford to resume her duties teaching. The Busimsss and Professional Woman’s club will resume it reg ular monthly diner meeting next Tuesday night, after just haying called misetings dusing the summer months. On Tuesday night the club will meet at the High School lunch roc'm at 6 o’clock.- Mrs. Arthur D. Gore entertained her bridge club Thursday after noon at her home on Magnolia Street. 'Attractive arrangemtnts of late summer flowers were used in Mrs. Gore’s living room and sun parlor where tables were placed for playing. After several progres sions Mrs. Dwight Brown was awarded high score prize for club members, and Mrs. J. C. McLean won visitors’ high. Mrs. N. B. Blue captured the floating prize. After the game the hostess served refreshments. 0 MRS. SENTER ENTERTAINS WEDNESDAY CLUB The Wednesday afternoon bridge club was entertained last week by Mrs. Neil Senter at her home. A dessert was served to the guests before the game- and during the game fruit punch and mints were served. Mrs. T. B. Lester won the club prize for high score and Mrs. Bill Lament captured the floating prize and also received the low score prize. Miss Doris Bradley of Kipling and Mrs. Ray Muench were guests of the club. The Pan-Hellenic Council of Davidson college announced this week the names of 162 pledges of the ten social fraternities on the campus. These men received their bids following a four-day rushing period, but the pledges will not be eligible for iniation until they have successfully passed their first semester of academic work. Bobby Murray, son of Dr. and Mrs. R. L. Murray, received a bid to the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Miss Betty McLean has entered her junior year at Flora McDonald college. Mrs. B. B. Cole and her dau ghter, Miss Nancy Lee Cole, have entered Flora MacDonald college as day students. Thomas A. Ray went to Raleigh Monday to enroll at State college. Mrs. Lacy McFadyen spent several days last week in Wilson. Miss Mary Stuart Covington has entered Flora MacDonald college as a day student until the first of March when she will enter the General Assembly Training school in Richmond, Va. — Mr. and Mrs. Belton Odom, Mrs. Mary Jane Odom, Miss Liza Mc lnnis, air of Manning, S. C., spent the week-end in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Campbell. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Callihan and children of Elizabethtown spent the week-end in the home of Mr. and Mrs A. S. Knowles. They were en route from Wrightsville Beach to their home in Charlotte. George 'Bethune of Concord spent the week-end here in the home of Mrs. J. A. Blue. Mrs. Be- thune and chileren, who spent last week here, returned to Con cord with him Sunday. Miss Leonora Currie left Sun day for Dunn where, she will teach the 8th grade this year. 51 BRIDGE CLUB MEETS WITH MRS. Mrs. Up church served an ice course after the game. -0- HOSTESS TO CLUB Mrs. Harry Greene was hostess to her bridge club Tuesday night at her home on Donaldson Avenue. Only club members were pres ent and two ta-bles were in play. At the conclusion of the game scores were totaled and high score prize went to Mrs. Chandler Roberts, with Mrs. Arch Graham ■taking the floating prize. Mrs. Greene served a delicious salad plate at the end of the GX'ening. 0 BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENTS' Born to Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Swanson at their home in Tacoma, Washington, a son, Albert George, Jr. Mrs. Swanson was formerly Miss. Aris Shankle. This is. the Swansons second child; the first one is a girl. McDouga-ld and Mrs. J. W. Lovette spent 'yesterday in Greensboro. They went especially to take Miss Laura McDougald, w.hb entered her senior year at WCUNC. Miss Faye Baker will leave Sunday for Winston-Salem wdiere she will teach social studies in the- 7th and 8th grades at South Fork school. Mrs. Chandler Roberts and children and Mrs. A. B. McFadyen visited in the home of George Mc Fadyen and family in Smith'field over the week-end. Miss, Mary Peterson of Wilming ton spent a few days last week with Miss Willa McFadyen. Miss Mary Raye Freeman has entered her junior pear ,at Flora MacDonald college, and is a day student. Miss Freeman attended Columbia college in Columbia, S. C. her freshman and sophomore years. Migg Elsie Upchurch is leaving for Shelby tomorrow where she will teach public school music in the Junior High. Miss Bonnie Kate Blue entered Queen’s college at Charlotte this week! Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Blue and Mrs. Patsy Williams accompanied her to Charlotte Monday. Warrant Officer and Mrs. J. T. Toohey spent last week in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Cole, after which they left here for Chicago where they will be sta tioned. The Tooheys had an apart ment with the Coles winter before last. John McGoogan is out again after having been very much in disposed for several ' days last week. Tom Cameron and W. J. Coates spent the week-end at Murrel’s Inlet. Neill McFadyen, Israel Mann, Dr. R. L. Murray and J. W. Tur lington attended the Western dis trict Cape Fear area council meeting of the Boy Scouts at Laurel Hill High School last Fri day evening.- This was a dinner meeting.
