Fderal authorities have approv ed a plan for reviving the United Service Organizations (U. S. O.). These organizations did an out- tanding service during the war by providing shows for service men. If one man had done all the flying, he would have covered 76,961,538 miles before meeting with an ac cident. 0 Drunken Drivmg Shows Decrease During November RALEIGH. N. C.—During No vember. 556 persons, lost their driving licenses in North Carolina because of drunken drix ing, the Motor Vehicle Department an nounced today. ' , This compared with 906 persoss who lost their licenses for the same offense during November of last year, and brought total 'drunken driving co.nvictions for 1948 to 7,815. During the month, 722 licenses were revoked and 181 were sus pended. The monthly revocation and suspension toll, in addition to the 556 persons caught driving drunk in North Carolina, included 54 caught driving outside the'State, 37 drivmg drunk and. miscellane ous; 21 driving after license had been revoked; 10 for two offenses of driving drunk; 11 for two of fenses of reckless driving; 14 for reckless driving and' miscellaneousi. Thirty-five others lost their driving rights for speeding over 75 miles per hour and miscellane ous; 10 for larceny of automobile; 11 for transiwrting liquor; 16 for being habitual violators of the traffic law; 19 for two offenses of speeding over 55 miles per hour; 19 for failure to maintain proof of financial responsibility; five for unsatisfied judgement; and three for incompetency. In addition, 441 other motorists were convicted of reckless driving during the month, bringing reck less convictionsi for the year to 4,519. However, this charge carries no revocation or suspension for the first offense. A total of 5,378 additional mo torists were found guilty of traffic violations which do not constitute, revocation or suspension on first offense. The leading conviction in this class was speeding, with 2,516 of fenders, bringing speeding con- victiens for the year to 28,677. Other violations;, failing to have driver’s license, 1,087; driving with faulty equipment, 349; im,proper Ughts, 196; running through red lights, 208; leaving car on high way unattended, 25; failkig to at intersection, 33; failing to'step’ when entering highway, 34; faA- ing to dim lights, 36; and passing'' school bus, 49. Of the totl^l violations, 4,772 ^ were North Carolinians, atnd the remaining 606 were out-of-stat^ drivers. .
