'■' MUSIC CLUB HAS FIRST MEETING OF YEAR The CJhaaninade Music club held the first meeting of the new year Tuesday ni^t at the home of Mrs. Qyde Upchurch. Miss Alice Walk er and Mts. John Walker were hostesses with. Mr§. Upchurch. Vari-colored gladioli were taste fully arranged in living and music rooms. After the usual routine and busings the following program was turned over to Mrs. J. A. Mc- Googan. Study by Mrs. Lewis Uip- churdh; piano solo, Miss Jessie Bright Ferguson; Duet, “Cloud Shadows,” James Rogers, by Mrs. A. K. Currie, Miss Josephine Hall, accompanist, Mrs. Luke Bethune; Current Events, Mrs. K. A. Mc Donald, Chorus practice by the club. Following the program the host esses invitecf the club members in to the dining room for refresh ments. The dining room table was centered with a bowl of white flowers and fern flanked with lighted white taraors. Russian tea was served ■with Miss Alice Walker pouring. A variety of sandwiches, tarts and candy was served with the tea. ^ SARAH LYNNMcGIRT HOSTESS ON BIRTHDAY Sarah Lynn McGirt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edison McGirt, was hostess to about IS friends on Mon day afternoon. The occasion was in celebration of Sarah Lynn’s 9th birthday. After guests had en joyed refreshments of ice cream and cake they aU went to see the local movie. ^ 0 RAINBOW GIRLS TO MEET The initiation service of the Rainbow Girls at the Masonic Hall tonight will begin at 7 o’ clock instead of 8 o’clock, as an nounced in The News-Journal last week. All Masons and Eastern Star members are cordially invited to attend. 0 BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENTS Born to Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood Baldwin of Antioch a son, Thurs day, January 13. Mrs. Baldwin was formerly Miss Margaret McPhaul. 0 Mrs. E. L. Hunt and E. L. Jr. left here last week for Eastwood to spend some time with Mrs. Hunt’s father before they leave for Flori da, where they are moving to in the near 'future. A. Mclnnis of Rockfish and the late Mr. Mclnnis. AUXILIARY COMMITTEE ENTERTAINED IN FAYETTEVILLE Mrs. Alfred Cole, Mrg. Israel Mann. Mrs. R. L. Murray, Mrs. R. A. Matheson and Mrs. R. B. Lewis were pleasantly entertained at an informal tea in Fayetteville last Friday afternoon. This courtesy was shown these Raeford women by Mrs. J. L. Norris at her home in Fayetteville and it was in recognition of the splendid work done by this commi ttee from the Americon Legion Auxiliary at the Veterans hospital. Every second Friday in the month a committee from the Raeford Auxiliary goes to the hospital and spends the day. They carry many articles and do many things to make the patients happy. 0 Born to Mr. and Mrs. James McPhaul of Antioch a son. Thurs day, January 13. Mrs. McPhaul was the former Miss Willie Peele of Scotland County. Mr. and Mrs. ,D. H. Poyetre^ and two daughters have moved in with Mrs. W. J. McDiarmid. PAULS Honoring Mr. and Mrs. Ben Robinson, who were married in December, Mr. ands®,Mrs. Boyce Canady entertained at a bridge party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John David Canady in St. Pauls Saturday night. Upon arrival Mrs. Robinson was presented a lovely corsage of glad ioli and carnations. During the evening three tables were'in play and after four progressions high score prizes were awarded to the lady and the gentleman holding high score. During the game cokes were served and after the game a delicious dessert course was served. Florida, with Mr. and Mrs. Herby Allen. Rosemary Cameron celebrated her 4th birthday with a party, given at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Cameron, yesterday afternoon. Mooring and Norman Suggs of La Grange attended the funeral of Mrs. McDonald Lovell, who died in Chicago on January 13. Mrs. Lovell, was Miss Harriet Belle Mooring of La Grange and was formerly secretary to Dr. Howard Odom of the Social Science De partment of U. N. C. The funeral was held at Rose Hill Mausoleum, Chicago, on January 15. , Raymond McLean spent Satur day in Raleigh. He went on busi ness connected -with the State Wildlife Resources Commission. Miss Mary Darden of Raleigh was an overnight guest of Mrs. Clyde Upchurch on Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. Mevlin McDowell of Chicago were week-end guests here in the home of Mrs. Mc Dowell’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. N. A. M'cKeithan, and in the home of Mrs. McDowell’s sister, Mrs. Will Frank Wright., Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Niven have as their guests Mrs. M. D. Gentry, Mrs. Bill Garrett and Mrs. Zadok Slaughter, all of Roxboro. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Wright went to Raleigh Monday night to attend the Golden Glove Boxing Tourna ment. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Harris and Mrs. A. A. Harris oif Roxiboro were week-end guests in the home of Mr. and' Mrs. Jeff Harris. Dr. Julian Jordan returned to his home Monday after being a patient at Moore County hospital for eight days. Dr. Jordan expects to be back in ibis office on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. A. L.
