COUPLES CLUB MEETS AT GIBSON HOME The members of the couples club were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Gibson on Thursday evening of last week. Qnly mem bers of the club were present and at the end of several interesting progressions high score prize went to Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, Jr. A delicious dessert coiurse was served after the game. 0 B & PW CLUB MEETS The Eaeford Business & Pro fessional- Women’s club held its regular monthly meeting at the high school lunchroom on Tues day evening of this week at 6:30. Mrs. C. H. Giles, president, pre sided. Mrs. Ed Willis gave th-3 club collect after which the min utes of the last meeting and of the inspirational breakfast were read by the secretary, Mrs. W. P. Barrington, and the treasurer’s report was given by ^rs. Mar guerite Pearson. Mrs. Ruria Shelton had charge of the program vfor the evening and after Mrs. Barrington, accom panied by Miss Jessie Bright Fer guson at the piano, sang “The Bells of St. Mary’s.’’ Mrs. Shel ton introduced Miss Fannie Mot- tinger, district director, of White- ville. Miss Mottinger told the members about the mid-year council to be held at the Holly wood Hotel in Southern Pines November 12-13 and asked for a large representation. She then in troduced Miss Elizabeth McMur- ray, Bible teacher of the White- ville schools, who was the speak er of the evening and who in a very interesting manner enlight ened the members on their em blem and its meaning. SENIOR BRIDGE CLUB ENTERTAINED Mrs. W. L. Poole was hostess to the senior bridge club on Mon day evening. There were two tables in' play with Mrs. J. H. Blue and Mrs. Alfred Cole guests other th^ club members. Mrs. Paul Dickson, Sr. won the club prize and Mrs. Alfred Cole the visitor’s prize. Mrs. Poole ser ved an ice course after the game. 0_ ‘ — SHIEL-WOOD The engagement of Miss Jeanne Craik Shiel, daughter of Mrs. R. V. Page and the late R. j. Shiel of Wilmington, to Allen Wilton Wood. Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Wood of Rockfish, has been announced by her mother. Mrs. Anna Patch Blue of Sou thern Pines annoimces the mar riage of her daughter. Clara Anne to Joe Riley Kimball, March 5, 1949, at Chesterfield, South Car olina. Mrs. Kimball is the daughter of the late Daniel Blue of Raeford and Timberland and Mrs. Blue of Southern Pines. Mr. Kimball is the son of Mrs. N. S. Mitchell spent Friday in Raleigh where they visited relatives and attended the State Fair. The Hoke-Raeford PTA is spon soring a Halloween carni^jal to be held in high school auditorium next Monday evening. Beginning at 5:30, hot dogs, drinks, arid ice cream will be sold by home ec onomics department. After eating there will be ^bin- go, fishing, hall of horrors, tur key raffle, chances on boxes of candy, cake walks, costume pa rade, popularity contest, and oth er attractions for both old and young. Hughes in Parkton Saturday at 1 o’clock. Miss Lentz is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Lentz of Durham. Mrs. A. C. Keith underwent a major operation at the Charlotte Memorial hospital last Wednes day. She is reported to be recu perating nicely but will be there for some time. Christman, to Henderson this week end to spend awhile with her daughter, Mrs. C. L. Finch. Eddie Morden of Canada is spending some time with his fam ily at Hotel Raeford. Robert Covington visited his mother and was also in Rae ford for a sh.oft while the past week end. Mrs. Alf Walters entered Scot land County Memorial hospital near Maxtoh, Sunday night for treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Epstein, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Epstein and Harry Epstein have visited their father, Sam Epstein, often in Lat- ta, S. C. during the past week.
