I .*: Folks used to gather their peas but the gathering of the pea crop is considered so slavishly hard seed peas are scarce. The farmer has always since my day, “the uiider dog” because he is not allowed to price his own products. Let the farm ers share independence along with the balance of the world. I learned many lessons from my chum, He never had any hard tasks. He would say, “Qh, well it will not take me long”, no mat ter how hard the task. He did not dread any hard thing he had to do. “CAN I CUT THE COST OF MY AUTO INSURANCir K you’re a select risk driver you can qualify for economical protection with Farm Bureau Mutual Automobile Insurance Co., Columbus, Ohio. 0 SELECT RISK COMPANY 0 AUTOMATIC RENEWALS 0 OWNED BY POLICYHOLDERS ; Fill out and mail this coupon. Body Type Model % My present insurance expires (date).— My Name - —- Oocnpation Hadacol Helps Textile Workers Stay On The JoB The great textile mills of the Carolinas are booming again with shifts working day and night to turn out the nation’s finest mate rials, and HADACOL is doing its part to keep folks on the job. Many textile workers have re ported the wonderful relief which has been brought them by HADACOL with its five B vita mins and foxur important minerals. Two of these workers, a young father employed by the great Cannon Mills at Kannapolis, N.C., and a mother, working at a null in nearby S allsb ury, N. C., recently told how HAD- ACOL had helped keep them on the job. Jay W. Bam- ^ hardt. Route 3,' Box 343, Kan napolis, N. C.,a — is 30 years old Mr. Barnhardt and the proud father of two chil dren. His work in the Cannon Mills calls for a great deal of standing up. “I had been ill for s>veral years,” said Mr. Barnhardt as he explained how close he came to having to give up his work. “1 suffered with a weak stomach. It became worse and worse with gastric disturbances. I just could not hold food and no food agreed with me. I could not sleep and finally I became so sick that my legs got weak as I worked in the mill each day.” Mr. Barnhardt, like so many sufferers, had tried many prepa rations without relief, when he heard about'HADACOL. “After the second bottle of HADACOL I began to feel better and to regain the weight I had lost,” said Mr. Barnhardt. “My digestion became normal again and today I am as well as ever. My legs no longer bother'■me. I eat and enjoy my food. I sleep well and have plenty of energy.’’ Mr. Barnhardt has taken sev eral bottles of HADACOL and now takes the famous vitamin and mineral preparation to help stay weU. He has had his wife take it with wonderful results and has recommended it to his friends in the mill. Mrs. Maggie H. Poole, 1503 Caroline Avenue, in Salisbury, N. C., had become so ill that she was forced to give up her work but soon after hearing the won derful news about HADACOL she was back on the job and ha.'; been doing swell ever since. “I was tired, weak and nerv ous,” said Mrs. Poole. “I suffered indigestion and food didn’t agree with me. I also had headaches. After taking five bottles of HAD ACOL I felt gopd and was back on the job at the mill. I had tried so many things that the HADA COL news was a real ble'^sing t'-. With today’s equipment to pre pare and cultivate, I see no rea son why a clodbuster has not an even chance with humanty. There were five Ray brothers in Moore county who cam6 from Scotland, who were all good citi zens and Presbyterians, Alex, Nivin, Makolm, Archibald and Patrick, or Peter. Three of them married Clarks. There have been but iew,,if any, who have willfully allowed tfte alcohol habit to make them cap tive to drink. So total abstinence is the only safe rule of action in this - matter. To be thorough in our know ledge of subjects, we must con sult standards, and be sure we are right in the simplest matters. In November, 1834, there was the greatest meteoric shower ever known, or read about. The heav ens looked as if the stars were lailing. me. I have more appetite and eat what I want to. I feel better than I have in a long time.” Mr. Barnhardt and Mrs. Poole were both suffering from a lack of B vitamins and the minerals which HADACOL contains. HADACOL comes to you in liquid form, easily assimilated in the blood stream so that it can' go to work right away. A lack of only a small amount of B vitamins and certain min erals will cause digestive disturb ances ... Your food wiR not agree with you . . . You will have an upset stomach . . . You will suffer from heart- bum, gas pains and your food will sour on your stomach and you will not be able to eat the things Mrs. Poole you like for fear of being in mis ery afterwards. Many people also suffer from constipation. And while these symptoms may be the results of other causes, they are surely and certainly the signs of lack of B vitamins and minerals which HADACOL contains. And if you suffer from such a defi ciency disorder, there is no known cure except the adnainis-. tration of the vitamins and min eral, which your system lacks. It is easy to understand, there fore, why countless thousands have been benefited by this amazing tonic, HADACOL. So it matters not how old you are or who you are ... it matters not where you live or if you have tried all the medicines under the sun, give this wonderful prepara tion HADACOL a trial Don’t go on suffering. Don’t continue to lead a miserable life. Many per sons who have suffered and waited for 10 to 20 years or even longer, are able now to live happy, comfortable lives because HADACOL supplied the vitamins and minerals which their systems' needed. Be fair to yourself. Tem porary relief is not enough for you. Give HADACOL a trial! - Insist on the genuine HADA COL. Don’t be nu'^lf'd. ''oept no substitute. Sold at all leading drug stores. Trial size only $1.25, but save money; buy the large family and hospital size, only $3.50. If your druggist does not handle HADA COL, order direct from The Le- Blanc Corporation, Lafayette, La., and when the postman brings your package just pay the amount plus the , c. 0. d. and postage. If you remit with the order we will pay the postage. Then, if you don’t feel perfectly satisfied after using HADACOL as directed, just return the empty carton and your money will be cheerfully re funded. Nothing could be fairer. It would be on^ly commonsense for people who have not had ed ucational advantages to improve their knowledge by reviewing their studies of subjects. The Parent Teacher Association has the position to aid a great deal in making the public schools just what they ought to be. Religion is the greatest and most useful subject humanity needs to study, and to my mind, one of the most delightful sub jects. Veterans Warned Of NSLI^dline A deadline in connection with National Service Life Insurance is coming up December 31, 1949 for veterans with service-incur red diaaMlitlei lieai titan total in degree, the Veterans Administra tion warns. j Generally a World War II vete ran who applies for new insur ance or to reinstate a policy that has lapsed, must furnish VA with Satisfactory 'evidence' t^f his good health. But so long as he apples before January 1, 18.50, a service, incurred disability, if less tjian total in degree, will be disregard ed in determining good health for this purpose. The clisa’oility must have been incurred in service be tween October 8, 1940 and Sept ember 2, 1045. I A veteran who applies for the NSLI total disability income pen- jSion also is required to furnish ; evidence of good health. In this case, too, a disability incurred in service between those same two dates, if less than total in de- I gree, will be disregarded in de termining good health. The appli- woiion iiM mu aioabiiiif in come provision must be made before January 1, 1950. ' World War II veterans eligible for automobiles have June 30, 1950 as their deadline, before which applications must ,be made. Such veterans who in service lost, or lost the use of, one or both legs at or above the ankle may be en titled to receive ah automobile or other conveyance at Government expense. It is being said that there has been but little change in Thanks giving since 1923. President Geor ge Washington set the time for Thanksgiving the last Thursday in November, and Franklin D. Roosevelt could not change it. Moving it back a little further from Christmas was all he want ed to do. The census of 1910 gave Rae- ford a population of 350. David Ray was the census taker. I think he took the census in Quewhiffle more than once. He found it hard not to go hunting after Fort Bragg was located in this county. The reservation took off 92,000 acres of land, and three hundred .in- Liabitants who went to other counties to live. In the State Magazine of last week you may read of a Presby terian minister who prayed for rain in a dry summer, and it rain ed before they got home that day. A minister at Spring Hill church in the days following the Civil War, when they had a drought, asked the people to come to the church to pray for rain, and be fore they went into the church he told them to turn their cushions over, and it did rain. . The above is not written ini jest, those prayers were answered. Many prayers are answered if of fered in the right spirit. That this country is Aending to wards Coihmunism none can deny, but waves of wickedness have passed over this counmy at dif ferent times, to be followed by re ligious revivals, so we hope for a revival. , IT FATS ’TO ADVERTISE Enter the WALTER WINCH ELL $20p00 NAM E-THE-CAR CONTEST!!!, - A Contest to find a name for the new low- priced car in the low-price field that will be added to the Kaiser-Frazer line.
