IB MUSIC CLUB HAS BUSINESS MEETING Thfe annual business meeting of the Chaminade Music club was held Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. J. A. McGoogan, with Mrs. Archie Howard serving as assistant hostess. The following officers were elected for the new year: Presi dent, Mrs. Clarence Brown, vice- president, Miss Josephine Hall, treasurer. Miss Jessie Bright Fer guson, secretary, Mrs. Fred Cul- breth. press reporter, Mrs. Lewis Upchurch. Miss Alice Walker gave a study “Playing Piano for Pleasure”, by Cooke. At the conclusion of the meet ing the hostesses served an ice course. Miss Margaret Willis spent the past week end in Durham visit ing Mr. and Mrs. R; M. McBane and Nancy. Mr. and Mrs. McBane accompanied her home Sunday afternoon and visited friends while here. GARDEN CLUB MEETS The Raeford Garden club was entertained Tuesday of last week in the home of Mrs. W. D. McLeod with Mrs. W. "i. Covington and Mrs. Peter McLean assisting Mrs. McLeod as hostesses. Flowers from the garden of the hostess were attractively arrang ed; their beauty and variety at this season of the year, causing much comment. As this was the amiual business business meeting, committees were appointed and reports given. After the business meeting the program was presented by Mrs. A. D. Gore. The topic was Herbs, their Culture and Uses. Mrs. Ro bert Gatlin won the prize offered by Mrs. Gore in a contest featur ing herbs. Mrs. Jesse Gibson gave garden hints for February. An ice cream course was served during the social hour. Mrs. J, M. Fergu son was the only guest other than club members. 0 MRS. GLISSON HONORED PTA TOURNAMENT A SUCCESS COUPLES CLUB MEET WITH LESTERS Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Lester en tertained the members of the couples club at their home last Wednesday evening. The living and dining rooms, in which three tables of bridge were in play, were decorated with ar rangements of lovely spring flow ers. At the end of the game high score prize went to Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Morrison. Mr. and Mrs. Buck McPhaul, who were the only visitors other than members, were also remembered with a gift. Mrs. Lester served a delicious dessert course after the game. The card tournament sponsored by the local PTA, and held at the High School gymnasium lart Thursday evening was a decided success from both ' a social and financial standpoint. There were twenty tables of grown people playing rook and bridge. The buriness firms of the town had contrfl)Uted many nice prizes which were given for high est scores at each table. The cake walks, with beavttiful home made cakes for the winners added much merriment to the occasion. Ice cream in heart shapes with salted 1 nuts was served. -0— DUCKWORTH-McGEE PRESBYTERY WOMEN HOLD MEETING HERE PINE FOREST CLUB MEETS The annual Executive Board Meeting of the Women ot the Church of Fayetteville Presbytery was held in the Presbyterian Church in Raeford Wednesday of this week. Mrs. H. C. McLauchlln, president, presided. Lunch was furnished the visitors by the Exe cutive Board of the Women of the local chiuch. 0 Mrs. Cy Thompson of Raleigh is visiting her sister, Mrs. Sarah McEachern McNeill. Friends of Mrs. McNeill’s will be glad to know that she is out again after having been sick for the past week. Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Campbell have moved into their new home on East Prospect avenue, located in front of the home of Mrs. Grady l^ach. Raeford Kiwanis Club Thursdays at 6:30 High School Cafeteria Mrs. Malcolm Glisson, who be fore her recent marriage was Miss Dolores Stewart of Morganton, West Va., was shown an attractive courtesy when Mrs. Rowena Cher ry ertertained at the home of her mother, Mrs. H. M. Meeks, last Friday evening. Bridal games and contests were enjoyed, after which the hostess and guests present presented the honored guest with a sho.wer of miscellaneous gifts. Refreshments of cookies and punch were served. GLISSON - STEWART Mr. and *Mrs. E. F. Stewart of Morganton, West Virginia, an- nource the marriage of their daughter, Dolores to Malcolm Glisson, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Glisson of Raeford, Sunday February 5, at Bennettsville, South Carolina. The couple will make their home with the groonj’s parerts. 0 Oscar Leach of Raleigh and Miss Jane Leach of Pinehurst were guests of Mrs. Grady Leach last Thursday. Mjss Leach remained for several days. J. T. Leslie has entered the Woodmen of the Word War Me morial hospital at San Antonio, Texas for treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Calloway Duckworth of Sentry Oaks Farm. Lynchburg, Virginia, announce the engagement of their daughter. Nancy Elizabeth, to Alan Marshall McGee of Holyoke, Mass., son of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Marshall McGee of Winston-Salem, his mother being the former Miss Bennie Lee Upchurch. The bride-elect attended Salem College, Winston-Salem, and Lynchburg College. The Duck worths are former residents of Fayetteville. Mr. McGee is a graduate of North Carolina State College, Ra leigh, from which he received a B. S. in chemical engineering. He now holds a position with the Her cules Powder Company in Holy oke. The wedding is planned for August. Sgt. and Mrs. Floyd Gillam have rented the apartment of Mrs. Aga nora Andrews and moved in last week, Sgt. Gillam is stationed with the 531st QM at Bragg. He and Mrs. Gillam are from Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. The Pine Forest Home Demon stration club met at the communr ity house Tuesday afternoon. They entertained the members of the Ashemont club, and about 29 pre sent. Miss Hall, HoiM Agent, gave a demonstration on Creative Arts. Each club member brought and displayed handiwork. The hostesses, Mrs. B. L. Wil liamson. Mrs. R. H. Williamson, Mrs. C. H. llpp and Mrs. Evelyn Lewis, served delicious refresh ments in the Valentine motif, consisting of sandwiches, cake and punch. 0 Mrs. J. S. JohAson and Miss Agnes Mae Johnson returned Sunday night after a trip to New York and Bermuda. Bobby Alexander and Gordon Adams attended the North Caro lina association of the Council of Deliberation of the Order of De Molay in Charlotte Sunday. The session was held in the Masonic Temple. B., Angus and Miss Isabel McFadyen attended the funeral of their aunt, Mrs. Frank McLean, at Rowland Sunday. Work in preparing the lot for the building of the home of C. F. Powell, manager of the Para- Thread Company of Raeford, is progressing' rapidly. Mr. Powell will build his home west of N. B. Blue’s on Edinburgh avenue. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McPhaul and family spent the week end with Mrs. McPhaul’s sister, Mrs. Vem- ard Stancil, in Warsaw. Sgt. and Mrs. Melvin Rouse accompanied them and went on to La Grange where they spent the week end with Mrs. H. T. Rouse, mother of Mrs. McPhaul and Sgt. Rouse. ■ Mr. and Mrs. Sam Morris and daughter visited Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Pernell at Louisburg over the week end. J. M. McDuffie has been sick and confined to his bed since last Friday, suffering a rib injury he received from a fall.
