Lewis entertained the senior bridge club at her home last Friday afternoon. Two tables were in play, all club members. Mrs. Benton Thomas, making the highest score was awarded the* club prize. The hos tess served a most refreshing ice course after the gaime. (I MRS. HOWELL HOSTESS TO CLUB Mrs. Bill Howell was hostess to the Wednesday afternoon club last week. Mrs. H. H. Hampton of West Palm Beach, Florida, who is visiting her sister, Mrs. Hift- ton McPhaul, was the only guest other than • members. Soon after arrival a delicious dessert course was served, and at the end of several interesting progressions of bridge Mrs. Bill Lament was awarded the high score prize. Mrs. Hampton was remembered with a gift. 0 PARKS-HARRIS - Mrs. Claudia B. Harris, daugh ter of Mrs. C. A. Lilly and the late C. E. Brown, and Alton Parks, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Parks, were married Saturday night. May 6, ' in Bennettsville. S. C. They are making their home with the groom’s parents. D Foster McBryde of Lees-McRae College spent the- week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Foster McBryde. MRS. SMITH ISSUES INVITATIONS Mrs. Foster McBryde accom panied by Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Smith, visited Margaret Jean Smith in Gastonia Sunday. Mar garet Jean has been a patient at the Orthopedics hospital since be ing burned several months ago. The marriage of Miss Peggy Ruth Queen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Queen, to Charles B. Spivey. Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Spivey of Portsmouth, Va., formerly of Raeford, took place April 8 at 8 o’clock in the evening in the Craddock Baptist Church at Portsmdtith, Va. The church was decorated with white gladioli, palms, fern, large baskets of white mixed flowers and cathedral candles. Flowers at the altar were arranged in the form of an arch under which the bride and groom stood. Mrs. John Ellis played the wed ding music and Miss Irene Spivey, sister of the groom, sang. Because, before the ceremony and The Lord’s Prayer, as a benediction. The double, ring ceremony was used. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a light blue suit with navy accessories. She carried a nosegay of red roses showered wnth hyacincths. Mrs. F. W. Pryor, Jr. was ma tron of honor and Burton Pres ton was best man. Ushers were James Bunch, Dale Sloan, James Andreatta, and David Queen, brother of the bride. A reception followed in the church parlors, after which Mr. and Mrs. Spivey left for Wash ington and other points north. Since their return they are at home at 442 Dorset Avenue, Ports mouth.’ Charles Spivey. Jr. is a former Raeford boy, having been born b/re. He attended the Raeford Schools before his parents mov ed to Portsmouth. He is a nephew of Walter and Milliard Baker, and Mrs. W. J. McNeill. ^ 0 ^ — MRS. The wedding took ' place on Lt. and Mrs. Overturf and chil dren, who have lived out in the country at the Leeter place for the past some time, will leave tomor row for Pennsylvania and New York for a visit with home folks. Lt. Overturf win leave for Cali fornia after a furlough of several weeks for overseas. Miss Willa McFadyen accom panied her sister, Mrs. Frances Hipp and daughter to St. Augus tine.
