Garrett and wisR Miralyn Johnson left Tuesday for Hi^ Point CoUege where she will attaid summer school. Last Sunday little Mack Mc- Bryd^ celebrated his birthday by inviting his young friends in to play games and to eat ice cream and cake. He received many nice gifts. Special guests were Sally Ann and Vanna Roach of Max- ton, cousins of the McBrydes. Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Sinclair. family of Sanford visited in the L. R. Cothran home Saturday. Harris Walters spent Monday in Winston-Salem on busing. Dr. and Mrs. U. M. Peck and daughter left by plane Tuesday for Iowa where they will visit Mrs. Peck’s family. ' Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cothran and Barbara spent Monday' in Raleigh. Mr. R. A. Smoak, Sam Joaches and Randolph Cothran went deep sea fidiing over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. McFadyen, William and Neill went to Mt. Gilead Sunday to the birthday celebration for Mrs. McFadyen’s aunt, Mrs. Alice McRae who is 90 years old. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Strother and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Strother went to Gardner-Webb College graduation to see Miss Ruby Strother get her diploma. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Brinkley and son and Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Hare and children of Portsmouth, Va. spent the week end here with relatives. Mr. Hare left his two children here for a visit. The Home Agent spent the week of May 22-27 in Manteo attending a frozen foods school. Speakers from the U. S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, and TVA in Tennessee, the N. C. Wild life Resources Commission and the N. C. Extension Service from Raleigh were heard. Demonstra tions on freezing fruits, vegeta bles, and meats were also given. Miss Nita Orr, Extension Frozen Foods Specialist, planned the pro gram. Mrs. Virginia S. Frankie McDougald was pianist, Sidney Turner and Bobby Tice were ushers and 4-H Club members sat in choir. Rev. D. E. Miller, pastor of the church, brought a message oh “God’s Go- Forward Program.” Mr. Dan Holler, Assistant State 4-H Club Leader, spent the morn ing of May 12 in the Farm and Home Agents office for a con ference on 4-H Club '.vork. The Wayside Club invited the I faculty members of the Hoke High School, Raeford Graded School and Rockfish Graded School, and several members of the Senior Class at Hoke High School to a picnic at the Mem orial Park in Cumberland Coun ty on the afternoon of May 10.
