North Carolina voted two to one against repeal, and a know ledge of that fact made the Rules Committee the big end of a ses sion of a North Carolina General Assembly. The funny pictures have dried up in the newspaper pages. They are nothing. Little wit and humor appears now with the exception of an occasional good “Gump” strip. If and when the UniteiJ States adopts the Gold Standard, and times get like the 1890’s and folks work like they do now, ninety- nine percent of them will starve. We haven’t had a freshet in this section in years, still we have had fairly good seasons. Crops needed little more rain, so work was not lost. They went especially for graduation exercises at Ala bama Polytechnic Institute where Billy Plummer received the de gree of doctor of Veterinary Med icine. Dr. and Mrs. Plummer and son. Bill, returned to North Car olina with them and spent the night before going on to Golds boro where Dr. Plummer will practice. Sidney Lovette injured his foot last Saturday afternoon when he jumped from a tree and struck it against an axe. It required sever al stitches to close the wound but he is doing nicely now, even though he isn’t able to get around much. Wayside News By Mrs. Ralph Plummer Kathleen Hayes of Barker-Ten- Miles arrived last week for an extended visit with Mr. and Mrs. John Tyler. Last week there were ruinous hailstorms in the northeasternly section of the state. I know but little of the “cause” of hail storms, but Maury taught us that perpetual snow was but two miles and a half higher than the Equat- There was a time in my exist- ance when a good tree dog made friends for his owner, and that dog was a well fed member of that family. C. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Neeley and children spent the past week with Mr. and Mrs. Dan Jones in Washington, D. C. Mrs. Gibby Ray accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Crowley and Irma Faye on a trip to Washing ton, D. C. and Chester, Pa. where they expect to visit Mr. and Mrs. Carlie .Crowley and family and to visit points of interest. Beatrice Hair spent several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Lacy Hair of Bonnie Doone. Mrs. Fred Dolan and Mrs. Sher man Lowrey of Brunswick, Md. were guests of Mr. and Mrs. El mer Shewbridge last week. They also visited Ellen Parker of Laur- inburg and attend her graduation exercises at Laurinburg High School. Others attending the ex ercises were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lovette, Betty Jo. Alma Lee and Sidney Lovette and Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Shewbridge. There will be cherfr practice at Parkers Church Friday night at 8 o’clock. All members are urged to attend.
