He would feed them. . .with the fin est of the wheat. (Psalm 81:13, 16. A.S.V.) Read Psalm 147:12- 20 or Matthew 7:24-29. In an Oklahc.ma town many visitors came to witness the de struction caused by a cyclone Many- people were killed, hnnies and other buildings destroyed. However, a grain elevator still stood. It towered high in the air. Visitors inquired why the tall elevator should stand while build ings all around it were demolish ed. A keen observer disclosed the fact that the grain elevator was filled with wheat. Therefore, the air pressure did not push out the walls of the elevator as it did in the case of the other buildings. Filled with wheat, the elevator had no air pressure from the in side. This would prevent deficit HM spending. soi m Approach It is obvious that the present legislature procedure to deal with the fiscal situation of our govern ment is totally inadequate. Each year, v e continue to have a de ficit. The national budget has been balanced only four times in a quarter ot a century. In that way, the people would demand that econ. omies be put Into practice. NO END There Just doesn't seem to be an end in sight to deficit spend ing. We have just completed a fiscal year in the red. Efforts are going to be made to raise the na tional debt limit. It was tried last year at the last minute but the Senate told the Administra tion to tighten up a little. The country got by without saddling the citizens with more national debt. DEBT MANAGEMENT Most people do not worry a great deal about the national debt. Perhaps we should look at it from the angle of the burden of paying the interest on the debt and the cost of managing it. That is something that has to be paid nut of taxes every year. Remember too, that it has not been long since that figure was more than the national budget. It is imperative that something be done about eliminating defic it spending. There's no use of being rabid abou'. the subject rather we must approach it in telligently and courageously. I am convinced that S. J. Res. 174 has great merit. TIIIS-AND-THAT Washington had some of the hot weather. The temperature climbed to 100 degrees for two consecutive days . . . Wedensday, Prayer Services OH, FOR PEACE AND Whether you are a businessman or a housewife, a fellow who makes the wheels go 'round, or a woman in industry, there come times when you long for peace and quiet. You'll find quiet in woods like these, but not a silence. The wind whispers through the trees. Birds murmur' softly. Insects squeak tunelessly. The soft lap-lap of water against the shore is like distant drumbeats. There is infinite peace, but never silence. Much closer to you is another haven of peace your church. Here too you will find quiet, but no dead, spiritless silence. Instead you will find relief from your worries, and inspira tion to keep doing your best. You will find the friendliness of others like you seeking inspiration in these troubled times. For the peace and quiet that will carry you serenely through Church Sunday. S"' W;h 'oral Biii. T.... .
