Stevens. Mrs. Kerr Stevens served as co-hostess. Mrs. Neil Senter, chairman, presided over the business session The program, presented by Mrs. k Arthur D. Gore, was given in two , parts. The first part, "Advertising and Publishing in Colonial America", was presented by Miss Lilmar Sue Gatlin, in the ab sence of Mrs. Marion Gatlin. The second part was given by Mrs. Gore, on "Voting in Early Amer ica." The program was informa tive and carried out the theme, "Our American Heritage." , The members were served a delicious salad course by the hos tesses. B FORMAL DANCE HELD AT FLORA MACDONALD The first formal dance of the Flora Macdonald college year, sponsored by the Student Coun cil, was held Saturday evening, October 22. The dance theme, "Collegiate Ball' , was effectively carried out in the decorations, which includ ed, on the backdrop, girls repre senting different colleges coming through a doorway. A brown and yellow color note emphasized the Fall Season. Among those taking part in the opening figure, with Professor William Reagan announcing the couples, were Mary Archie Brown with Joe Gulledge of Raeford; Mary McLean with O. B. Max well of Raeford; and Jane Wood with Tom Kelly of Draper, Va. 0 PEGGY WILLIAMS HAS PARTY THURSDAY Peggy Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Williams, cel ebrated her tenth birthday last Thursday with a party between four and five o'clock. Eighteen boys and girls enjoyed several! games, after which ice cream, cookies, candies and peanuts were served. Each guest was presented with , a favor. 0 Roy Parks and Everette Parks of San Francisco, Calif, arrived last week for a visit with the Ralph Parks and Walter Parks families. Bobby McNeill of UNC in Cha pel Hill spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and. Mrs. John K. McNeill. Mr. and Mrs. Hush Lowe of Charlotte and Miss Maude Poole of Belmont were week end guests of Mrs. Luke Bethune. Lawrence McGee of Camp Gordon, Ga. visited relatives here during the week end. A his torical program on General Lee's battles at Gettysburg and in Virginia was presented by Mrs. T. D. Potter .and Mrs. H. L. Gatlin. Members were reminded to bring pantry supplies for the Confederate Woman's Home in Fayetteville to the November meeting which will be held with Mrs. A. K. Stevens. A social hour with delicious refreshments was enjoyed. n MRS. SNEAD HOSTESS TO AUXILIARY MONDAY A meeting of the Auxiliary to the Hoke County Ellis William son American Legion Post was held Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Younger Snead, with Mrs. Herbert McKeithan, co-hostess. Mrs. R. L. Murray, president, presided over the business ses sion. Mrs. Murray announced that all eligible persons who would like to join the Auxiliary and those members who have not paid there dues for the year, should contact Mrs. W. L. Poole. During the social hour the hostess served cookies and coffee. (V Club Calendar The Fine Arts Department of the Woman's Club will meet Tuesday, November 1, at 7:45 at the home of Miss Peggy Bethune with Mrs. Arthur Park as co hostess. MR. & MRS. CAMERON ENTERTAIN WEDDING PARTY AND GUESTS Mr. and Mrs. Thomas U. Cam eron entertained the Hasty-Upchurch wedding party and out-of-town guests on Friday evening after the wedding rehearsal. Beautiful arrangements of autumn flowers decorated the living room and library. Presiding over the punch table in the living room were Mrs. Ray Collins of Kinston and Mrs. Car son Davis, Jr. Guests were invited into the dining room where a color motif of pink and green was carried out in decorations and refresh ments. The table was centered with a silver bowl of dahlias and snapdragons and silver candela bra .with pink candles. Sand wiches, cakes and confections de corated and cut in traditional wedding style were served. Mrs. Hubert Cameron and Mrs. Bill Upchurch assisted in serving. SUPPER AT LAKE ALICE FRIDAY EVENING Mrs. C. E. Upchurch and Mrs Agnes Johnson entertained the Hasty-Upchurch wedding party and out-of-town guests on Fri day evening at Lake Alice with a spaghetti supper. Forty-four guests were present. BUFFET SUPPER SATURDAY AT FIVE On Saturday at five o'clock Mrs. R. B. Lewis, Mrs. Alan Mc Gee of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Mrs. J. W. Bowman entertained the bridal party and out-of-town guests to the Hasty-Upchurch wedding at a buffet supper at the home of Mrs. Lewis. A delicious salad plate with accessories was enjoyed by the twenty-eight guests present. LUNCHEON SATURDAY FOR BRIDESMAIDS Mrs. H. A. Cameron, Mrs. L. M. Upchurch, Mrs. James Weaver of Macon, Ga. and Mrs. Ray Col lins of Kinston entertained with a luncheon on Saturday of last week for the bridesmaids and out-of-town guests to the Hasty Upchurch wedding. Miss Betty Upchurch was presented with ; corsage upon arrival. Covers were laid for twenty eight at individual tables, where a delicious three course luncheon was served by the hostesses. Miss Betty Anne Upchurch Is Married To John Calvin Hasty In Methodist Church On Saturday evening, October 22, at eight o'clock, Miss Betty Anne Upchurch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Benton Up church, Jr., became the bride of John Calvin Hasty, son of Mrs W. H. Hasty, of Maxton and the late Mr. Hasty, in a candlelight ceremony at the Raeford Metho dist Church. The Rev. J. Herbert Miller, pastor of the church, of ficiated at the double ring cere mony. The altar, in front of which was the kneeling bench, was banked with palms and Sou thern smilax, interspersed with floor baskets of white pom pom chrysanthemums and seven bran ched candelabra with lighted white tapers. On the altar was the open Bible with clusters of white candles. Mrs. Hugh Lowe of Charlotte, organist, presented a program of nuptial music, and accompanied Mrs. Carson Davis, Jr., who sang, Grieg's "I Love Thee," and "Wedding Benediction", by Love lace. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an original gown of candlelight satin fash ioned with a fitted bodice, low rounded neckline appliqued with seed pearls, and long sleeves end ing in points over the hands. The full skirt ended in a chapel train. She wore a fingertip veil of im ported point d'Alencon lace on a half hat of lace and seed pearls. Her bouquet was a cascade show ered with stephenotis and tube roses, centered with a white or chid. For something old she car ried a handkerchief made and carried by her maternal grand mother in her wedding. Miss Eloise Upchurch, sister of the bride, was maid of honor, and Mrs. Charles Avera, of East Hampton, N. Y., cousin of the bride, was matron of honor. They wore identical toast crystallette spun tatleta dresses tasnionea with a fitted bodice, long torso and bouffant skirts. Bridesmaids were Miss Sarah Cole, Miss Carolyn Gleaton of Spartanburg, S. C, Miss Mary Clark Webb of Brunswick, Ga., Miss Sally Fambrough of Bain- bridge, Ga., Mrs. Ray Collins of Kinston and Mrs. James Weaver of Macon, Ga. Miss Jane Hasty of Maxton, cousin of the groom, was junior bridesmaid. Their gold dresses were identical to the maid and matron of honor except in color. The attendants carried flowers in cascades of gold and bronze fugi chrysanthemums, and wore matching bands of flowers in their hair. Mr. Hasty had as his best man, his brother, Howard Hasty of Maxton. Ushers were Marion Wall of Rockville, Md, William A. Mc Lean of Tampa, Fla., cousin of the groom, Roland Seals and Wil liam Frostic, both of Maxton, Lt. Lawrence McGee of Camp Gor don, Ga., cousin of the bride and Jerry Parish of Raleigh. Malcolm McLean, Jr. of Mobile, Ala., the groom's cousin, was ring bearer. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Upchurch wore a blue lace dress over satin. The groom s mother wore grey lace. Both wore shoulder corsages of orchids. Reception Immediately after the ceremony a reception was held in the church parlor. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Up church and Mrs. C. L. Thomas greeted the guests at the front door and Mr. and Mrs. Neill Mc- Fadyen and Dr. and Mrs. R. A. Matheson introduced them to the receiving line which was compos ed of the bride and groom, Mrs. T. B. Upchurch, Jr., mother of the bride, and Mrs. W. Howard Hasty, mother of the groom, and the maid snrl matron of honor and the bridesmaids. The table was covered with a linen and lace cloth, centered with a beautiful arrangement of white flowers, with silver can delabra holding lighted white candles. At one end was the wed ding cake and at the other a crystal punch bowl. Mrs. J. S. Johnson, Sr., Mrs. Luke Bethune and Mrs. H. C. Mc Lauchlin cut the cake and Mrs. Steve Cooke of Dawson, Ga., Mrs. Alan McGee of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Miss Maude Poole pour ed punch. Serving the cake, nuts and mints were Mesdames W. L. Upchurch, Joe Upchurch, June Johnson, John Campbell, Robert McCleskey of Winston-Salem, and Hubert Cameron, Misses Je nelle Snead, Virginia McFadyen, Teresa McLean of Mobile, Ala., Suzanne Cameron, Virginia Mc Neill, Freeman McFadyen, De laine McFadyen, Kitzy Lou Norris, Lilmar Sue Gatlin and Lillian Scarborough. Currie and Miss Peggy Be thune. The bride was graduated cum lnude from ' Wcsleyan College, Macon, Ga., in June. The groom was graduated from the Univer sity of North Carolina in 1953, and served two years in the Army. He is now with the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Co. in Raleigh, where they will make their home. For traveling the bride wore a brown wool suit with a fitted jacket, three quarter length sleeves and rounded col lar, beige hat, gloves and blouse, with lizard shoes and bag.
