Bucks Basketball Team
Lacks Height, Experience
The Hoke High School Bucks
basketball team under the coaching of W.
K. Morgan is hard at work preparing for
the opening game at Red Springs
December 3rd. The Hucks have only two
lettermcn back from last year. Ihey are
Richard McNeill and Jeff McNeill.
Coach Morgan says that this year's
team is smaller but quicker than last
year's team. He does not have the
experience of last year but the boys have
the potential and Morgan believes that
the) will be better before the year is over.
If the team is to win at tlrst it must learn
" fast he stated.
He thinks Richaid McNeill is a
tremendous ball player ajid should be an
all-conference selection. Joseph Hiidgcs
and Jeff McNeill could possibly be
all-conference caliber.
Morgan, who is a graduate of
Pembroke State College, will be assisted
in coaching by the following:
Junior Varsity - t arry Phillips, East
Carolina, 'th Grade, Howard Smith,
North Carolina A&T, and 8th Grade,
Sammy Bryant, Catawba.
The overall record for the Bucks last
year was 13 wins and 9 losses. In
conference play they were 4 wins and
two loses, finishing second to Clinton.
Coach Morgan was asked about the
outlook for the conference as a whole
and he said. "Sanford has everyone back
from last year's team and should be real
strong. Hamlet and Rockingham will be
the strongest in Destrict 2 of our
Southeastern 3-A Conference."
