Circles No. 1, 2, and 3 ot Shiloh Presbyterian Church met at the home of Mrs. D. R. Huff Jr. Circle No 1 met Monday night and 13 members were present. Circle No 3 met Monday morning and 7 were present, and circle No 2 met Tuesday night. We iu the community are glad that Mrs. Woodrow Bobbin is out of the hospital and feeling better. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith arc spending a couple of weeks with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Thompson and Mrs. James I.. Smith. The Smiths arc moving from Raleigh to Grand Canyon where they will be for 2 months and then they will reside in Washington. D. C. The W. M. S. of Ashley Heights Baptist Church met at Mrs. Frank Hardistci's home last Tuesday night. The lesson was by Mrs. Sarah Strothcr. Mrs. Ellis P. Smith and Mrs. Hardistcr. Cake and coflcc were served to the members present. Miss Mary Margaret Sawyer won the Art award for the district Fine Arts Festival and will be competing lor the State soon. ? Army Plnttol Mrs. Altman Named Easter Seal Treasurer Mrs. Johnnie Altman has been named treasurer or the 1970 Easter Seal Appeal in Hoke County, which will begin with 1,300 appeal letters delivered the week of March I. The Appeal, now in its 35th year in North Carolina, seeks funds for providing rehabilitation services for crippled children and adults. Easter Seal Societies nationwide last year in their service programs assisted 25 3,000 handicapped individuals including more than 3,300 North Carolinians. Most of the services are provided on the local level by Easter Seal volunteers interested in the handicapped in their own communities. Primary emphasis in the Easter Seal program in North Carolina is in equipment loan pools - wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, purchase of therapy and other care: transportation to medical centers: and various other special individual needs. Additionally, 200 handicapped youngsters and young adults attend Camp Easter-in-the-Pines in Southern Pines each summer. Barnes, president of the Hoke County Farm Bureau, this week announced the availability of two scholarships to recipients meeting the rquirements. Scholarships from the Lloyd T. Weeks Endowed Scholarship Fund at N. C. State University and the North Carolina Farm Bureau R. Flake Shaw Memonal Scholarship Loans are offered. Loans from the Shaw fund are made for up to four years of schooling provided a student is regularly enrolled in school and is making satisfactory grades. Each loan is SSOO per school year. Eligibility requirements will be based on need for financial assistance; satisfactory scholastic record, leadership potential and character. Preference will be given to Farm Bureau family members. There will be no interest payable on these scholarship loans until the participant is in ! the position to have his or her own income. Applications should be submrtted ot the Hoke County Farm Bureau by April I, Barnes said. The Weeks fund was established to help deserving students in agriculture at the State University in Raleigh. Recipients must be residents of the states represented in the flue ? cured tobacco area. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of financial need to deserving students who meet NCSU requirements and standards. Recipients may be undergraduates, two - year agriculture institute students or graduate students pursuing a course of study in the School of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
