Canning Crisis Crunch The latest crisis, the great canning lid shortage of 1975, runs rampant here as well as everywhere else, as a random sampling of opinion on Main Street ranged ?from mild concern to utter disgust: Kaye KeDey, "It just so happens we ran into some thank goodness. If we hadn't, we would have been in trouble. I hear they want to sell the jars with the lids. / haven't found any in Raeford." Sandra Holcomb, "I really don't think there is a shortage, / think the stores got them. People are buying a whole bunch at a time everytime they see them in the stores. Water repellency means the fabric has been treated in such a way that it is resistant to wetting. But the fabric still allows air and body heat to pass through. Waterproofed fabrics arc completely sealed so that neither heat nor air can pass through. This makes them more uncomfortable to wear, but they are truly waterproof, according to extension clothing specialists. North Carolina State University.
