l*V 1 PARKING LOT SITE -? 77ie on/y thing left standing at the Sinclair house early this week was the stairway as demolition work is almost complete. A public parking lot stretching from W. Kdinborough Ave. to W. Elwood Ave. will be built on the site. Read Ephetiam 6:10-20 "God is faithful, and'he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." (1 Corinthians 10:13 RSV) It was my day off. I felt restless, uneasy, as 1 slipped into my pacing mood. 1 was swamped in a flood of negative feelings. 1 remembered the simple injunc tion of Jesus when faced with temptation: "Get thee behind me, Satan." In the name of Jesus. I prayed, "Drive these negative forces from my consciousness." In spiritual warfare we require spiritual armor. If we rely on our own strength, we go down to defeat. We must stand in the power of Christ. My prayer was answered when I met a new candidate for our rehabilitation program. His prayer had been that he might meet someone who would talk to him and relieve him of some of his apprehension. We spent the next two hours strolling through the streets, talking about new begin nings. We agreed that in our chance meeting God had indeed answered our mutual prayers. PRAYER: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives and for the assurance that You are a prayer ? answering God. We are grateful that You can turn our weakness into strength. Be with us through out this day. Amen. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Constant prayer is the guardian of the soul. Read Psalm 62:5-8 "Trust in him at all times. O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us." (Psalm 62:8 RSV) As I was recovering from an illness, one day 1 sat watching the world through the screen door on the front of our house. As I watched. I saw a delicate white seed caught against the screen. As the breeze caught and tried to lift it up and away, the seed seemed to cling to the screen as if its very life depended upon it. It occurred to me that we sometimes hold just as tightly to things which cannot possibly give us life. The wind of the Spirit tries to lift us up to new heights and carry us to distant horizons of life, joy. and love. Yet in our fear we cling to that which seems so safe and secure. If we are willing to let go and let the Spirit of God carry us where He would have us go, how many more wonders we would see. how much more strength we would have, how much wider our vision would be. PRAYER: Eternal Lord, our heavenly Father, guide and direct us with Your Spirit and give us love to share with all we meet. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY To trust God is to yield all of life to Him. --copyright THE UPPER ROOM -Virginia Norman (Galion, Ohio) 0 -?
