Area Incidents Three Charged With Break-In Three men have been charged by deputies with the Nov. 12 break-in at the home of Elizabeth Tolar. Rt. I. Lumber Bridge, according to the Hoke County Sheriffs Dept. Charged were Larry Glenn Gib son. Clyde Evers. and Johnny McMillian. Their addresses were not given in the report. In all. some 81 items taken from the home were recovered, includ ing: a jewelry box whose contents were valued at S500, a television worth $200, a S200 brass mirror, canned food, blankets. China, tools, and candleholders. The woman told deputies she had gone to stay with ner sister, and when she returned, she found that her house had been ransacked. Entry was gained through a living room window; glass in a door was also broken, according to the report. In other incidents. James P. Plummer. Rt. 4, Raeford, notified deputies Nov. 7 that a color television had been taken from his home. The Sheriff s Dept. was first notified of the break-in by mem bers of the Puppy Creek Communi ty Watch, who were patrolling the area. A carport door was used as a means of entry, deputies said. The television was valued at $274. Paul Leroy Hunsucker. Rt. 2. Robbins. reported the theft of a 1 2 gauge shotgun, worth $500, from his van while it was parked outside R.W. Parks Exxon on Nov. 12. He told deputies he didn't notice the gun was gone until he got home. A CB base, a .22 caliber rifle and two boxes of tools, worth a total of $345. were taken from the home of William Randell Butler. Rt. 4. Raeford, on Nov. 9. according to reports. A window had been broken at the home a week before, and thieves used it to gain entry into the house, deputies said. Gary Fredrick. Rt. 1, Aberdeen, reported the theft of four tires and rims from his car Nov. 9 while it was parked overnight at Leach's Auto. The items were valued at $300. Eleven fence posts were stolen from the farm of Glen Russell. Rt. I, Aberdeen, on Nov. 14, deputies said. They were valued at $24. James Freeman, 804 Saunders St.. Raeford. told deputies he went to sleep in his car on Nov. 14 and awoke to find that his wallet, containing $60. was gone. A pocketbook was taken from a car parked outside Lee's Grocery on the 401 by-pass Nov. 8. accord ing to reports. Linda Locklear. Rt. 1 . Shannon reported the theft. The loss was set at $35. A patio set fell victim to vandals at the home of J.T. Fitzgerald. Rt. 2. Raeford on Nov. 8. The damage was set at $50. Offices Close For Holidays City offices will be closed Thurs day, Nov. 24 in observance of Thanksgiving, according to Rae ford City Manager Robert Drum wright. Trash will be collected the following Friday and Saturday to make up for the missed day, he said. The city manager requested that all local citizens who plan to bum leaves alert the fire department beforehand. Raeford told deputies he went to sleep at a friend's home Nov. 10 and found, when he woke up. that $122 had been taken from him. A $700 Russian Spitz dog was reportedly stolen from the home of David Morgan. Rt. 4, Raeford. on Nov. 7. The dog had been taken off its chain, deputies said. A number of incidents were reported in the city during the week, according to police. On Nov. 14, Mildred Baxley, E. Alston Ave., reported to local police that about $35 worth of heating oil had been stolen from the oil drum at her house. Also on the 14th, police went to Hoke County High School after getting a call from school principal Earl Oxendine that a juvenile there had six joints of marijuana in his possession. The juvenile was picked up by officers, and a juvenile petition will be issued, according to the report. James Jacobs, P.O. Box 211, Shannon, told police on Nov. 9 that all four hubcaps had been taken off his car while it was parked at the Family Dollar Store in town. The loss was set at S100. police said. The theft of S489 in clothing from B.C. Moore and Sons at the Edenborough Mall is under investi gation by local police. The clothing was taken on the 10th, police said, and was recovered in Lumberton. The Lumberton Police Dept. con tacted the store manager, who identified the stolen merchandise. Local police expect to issue a warrant in the case. On Nov. 11, May Hughs, Rt. 1, Red Springs, reported that four hubcaps valued at $1 50 were taken off her car while it was parked on the lot of Summerfield Industries Inc. Juvenile petitions will be issued to two separate shoplifting inci dents that occurred at the A&P grocery store Nov. 9 and 12, police said. In the first incident, $1.29 in cigarettes and chewing gum was taken, and, in the second incident, $1 .88 in merchandise was involved. SPIRIT ?? Deaths And Funerals MRS. MAUDE D. SANDY Mrs. Maude D. Sandy. 84, formerly of Raeford died Thursday in an Augusta, Ga. hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at Pittman Grove Baptist Church by Rev. James Purcell, Rev. Wayne Beasley and Rev. E.C. Taylor. Burial was in Sandy Grove Methodist Church cemetery. Surviving are: two daughters. Mrs. Alfred Pittman of Raeford and Mrs. Catherine Carter of Chuckey. Tenn.; six sons. Frank of Augusta. Ga.. Coolidge and Lewis of Fayetteville.
