First Lady To Address Mental Health Conference In Raleigh As part of an effort to enable North Carolina to move forward in meeting the mental health needs of its people. Gov. James B. Hunt is hosting a Governor's Conference on Mental Health April 18-20 at the Raleigh Civic Center. The conference will focus on the recommendations of the Presi dent's Commission on Mental Health presented last year to President Carter and their imple mentation in North Carolina. First Lady Rosalynn Carter will be the keynote speaker. Division of Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services. The comprehensive report of the President's Commission on Mental Health notes the progress in mental health programming, but also states that many people are still unserved, underserved or in appropriately served. The Com mission made hundreds of recom mendations to improve mental health efforts in the United States. North Carolina is the second state in the country hosting a conference for its citizens to ad dress the President's Commission report. Sixteen task forces have been formed with over 400 volunteers participating^ study specific men tal health issues which will be presented to conference partici pants in workshop sessions. Citizens from all over North Carolina will help develop the final recommendations which will be presented to Governor Hunt. In addition to Mrs. Carter, guest speakers will be Dr. Thomas Bryant, executive director of the President's commission on Mental Health; Hilda Robbins, president of the National Mental Health Association; and Congressman Richardson Preyer of Greensboro.
