(?) Contest At Upchurch
Upchurch Junior High School's
students, teachers and administra
tors were sent off November 25 on
their Thanksgiving holiday with a
rouple of events they found hilar
ious, judging by the audience
responses.
They were an imitation of the
"Gong Show" which once was
shown on network television and
the Miss Bald Eagle beauty contest,
whose candidates were male
teachers escorted by female
teachers all in costume. Both
programs were sponsored by the
Student Council of the school, and
16 groups of individuals partici
pated in "The Gong Show." The

Show as student Brett McDaniel,

Alice" Edwards, escorted by "Bad
Bennie" Ramsey was second; and
"Wooing Willa" Munn, escorted
by "Jolly Jodie" Norris. placed
third.

Literacy Talk
The Parents Advisory Council
of Hoke County High School will
have Barbara Buie as guest speaker
at a meeting Thursday.
She is director of the Hoke
Education for Literacy Project.
The subject of her talk will be
literacy. She will give information
helpful to parents who want to
help members of their family im
prove their reading ability.
