Library News BUSY. BUSY, BUSY Busy, busy busy; is what we have been since Christmas. We have had three people out for some time and one in China, but one by one they have trickled back in. Paul Fu was in China through Thanksgiving and Christmas and returned January 14 to work. Debra Baker has been out on maternity leave and returned Mon day. Debbie has a little girl. Nancy Morgan has been in the hospital and out for a while and is back. Nancy worked on the book mobile with Letitia Conoly and. without her, we had to cancel Bookmobile services for a few times. Mrs. Cameron was out with her broken hip and shoulder from December 18 to February 1 and is back full time now. VVe missed all these folks sorely and it is good to have them back. We two librarians and two students in the afternoon from school hope we have kept you in the library material you have needed. We tried to keep the "show on the road" so you. our special patrons, would still have the same uninter rupted services. If you at some time came in and saw a librarian running.it was to catch the phone, help with school references, to help you. etc. It is so good not to have had any problems during this time. Willie Dimps had extra hous?; hold duties to perform, and he did it very pleasantly and willingly. And when you see Danny or Michael Roberts who are students working with us be sure and tell them how much they are appre ciated in the library. We could not have made it without them. BLACK HISTORY MONTH Along with many different school reports that are keeping the young sters and us busy; now many ot them are looking for matenal pertaining to ' BLACK HIS TORY." .. . Our material is very limited so we are having to do "first come, first served" and hope those who cam? f.rsi will bring their material back early. AMHRICAN HEART ASSOCIA TION MONTH On displav in the library you will find a display of material dealing with many phases ot heart attack and stroke and many ways to help detect the possibility ot and to ward off heart attach or a stroke. The material is very limited, so Pleas<j plan to read what you need and leave it for someone else. Sorry we can't get more material for every one. OLD BOOKS . , Old books are still being sold at the library. There are some still left if you want to look tor a special auihor. All we plan to sell for a while have been put out. So if you want to see what is here hurry on down to the library today. STORY HOUR Story hours have still not been started back out in the county kindergartens, but the regular ones in the library are still going on. We missed having some of the private kindergartens during the cold bit ter weather. I'm sure the kids and teachers are glad to have Mrs. Cameron back. This person had a fun time singing and reading and showing films to the little folks, but some of our story book characters had to go on vacation while Mrs. Cameron was away. Seems there is going to have to be some learning in hand puppets and flannel board activity in case Mrs. Cameron is gone again. It's disappointing to the little ones not to have their favorite programs and characters like Winky the bear, etc. A great big THANKS to Mary Ann Baker and Allison Mark for their help with the Mother's Story Hour. They were both so good to do this for us several times. Hoke County is so fortunate to have a good community spirit when there is a need, and these two ladies have proven this, above and beyond the call of duty. NO MORE COPIES Until further notice there will be no further copies made for the public. Only in the library use, or school work in the library, etc. will be copied; due to lack of funds for copy paper. If there is a change we will let you know. This is.alniiost a free service at only 10 cents a copy and our supply money is not enough to cover this item. LATE WISHES We of the Hoke County Library Staff want to wish Sam Morris all the best in his retirement. It is one well earned. Sam, you've been so good to us thro' the years and we did want you to know how much we care. So now, hit that ball, catch that fish, sail that boat, take that tour, climb that mountain, or what ever your heart desires. We know you deserve it. Happy retirement. Rural Heart Week Starts Sunday The week of February 14 has been designated Rural Heart Week, according to Miss Emma Mims. fundraising chairman of the Hoke County Heart Association. "Our goal is to reach every home in our rural areas to leave educa tional material and to receive donations to the 1982 Heart Fund," she said. "Because of the distance that many people outside of town must travel to get to a hospital, it is important that they know the warning signs of a possible heart attack and act immediately to help the victim," Miss Mims continued. "This means calling an emergency squad for transportation or driving the person to the hospital." She listed the following signs of heart attack: ?Prolonged heavy pressure or squeezing pain in the center of the chest behind the breastbone. --Pain spreading to the shoulder, arm, neck, or jaw. ?Pain or discomfort followed by sweating, nausea, vomiting, or shortness of breath. "These symptoms may subside and then return, but don't wait. Gel the person to a hospital emergency room at once." she said. Public education on heart at tack, stroke, high blood pressure, and other forms of heart disease is one of the programs supported by the Heart Fund, Miss Mims pointed out . Other programs cover research, professional education and training, and community ser vice. All Heart Fund contributions are tax-deductible. Community workers for Hoke County include Mrs. Gover Mc Millan. Jessie Dupree. Joyce Grif fin. Kathy Hendrix, Bonnie Love, Charlotte Kelly, andl Elma Page.
