Chain Saw, Car
Batteries , F ood Stolen
The following reports were filed
I his month at the Hoke County
Sheriffs Department.
Willie Smith of Raetord reported
a 5350 chain saw was stolen from
the cab of his truck between
Saturday and Monday while the
truck was parked in his yard. A BB
rifle also was taken from the truck
but was found in bushes near the
yard.
A gas line on a tractor owned by
Robert Pureell tit Rt. 3. Raetord,
between February 3 and Monday.
The damage amounted to about
*300.
Jenell Morris of Aberdeen re
ported her car's battery, four tapes
and a player were stolen from her
car Sunday. The tapes were valued
at S40. the player SI 20. and the
battery S50.
Tony Lenon Headen reported
seeing a gas can under a school bus
Sunday, the saw someone run away
from the bus. Thirty gallons of gas
worth $37.80 had been taken from
the bus's tank.
Two tires, two wheels and 10 lug
nuts were stolen from a car at Hoke
Auto Saturday or Sunday. Total
value of the propertv is listed as
S4I2.
A mail box at the home of
Charles Wells on Rt. -4. Raeford.
was damaged by a 12 gauge
shotgun charge Saturdav.
Timothy B. Tyler, 38. of Rt. 1.
Raeford. was treated Saturday at
Moore Memorial Hospital for in
juries including lacerations on the
top of his head. He was found at
home.
Evette Henderson. Rt. I. Aber
deen. reported Saturday someone
stole 514.59 worth ot her groceries
from her car port.
Thelma Davis Barbour of
Meadowood Trailer Park reported
Friday someone broke into her
home and stole a $400 television set
and a $30 calculator.
Jack Letzgus of Lafayette Woods
Mobile Home Park reported a SI 00
washing machine was taken from a
vacated trailer February 2 or 3.
A S249 water pump and S30
water tank were stolen from Virgil's
Drive Inn on U.S. 401 bypass early
Friday.
A 1977 CMC van owned bv
L.D. McGougan, Rt 2. Raeford.
was reported stolen February 2 but
was recovered later the same da>.
A suspect was arrested.

Raeford. reported February 1 a .22
pistol worth $70 was stolen.
Someone broke two front win
dow's at Carter's Pig-'N'-Chicken
with gun fire. The damage was
estimated at $800.

Members of the Raetord Garden
Club met February 2 in the home of
Mrs. Marilyn Fowler at 8 p.m.
President Shirley Maxwell
opened the meeting and conducted
ihe business. Mrs. Charlotta King
and Mrs. Anne Hostetler came to
ask the club's support for a
resolution to be made to state
agencies to maintain monies which
are presently coming to regional
libraries.
Mrs. Linda Steed presented the
program which was a film "Azalea
Trails. USA" concerning the
beauty and growing culture of the
a/alea.
Hostesses were Mrs. Caroline
Shook and Mrs. Marilyn Fowler.
Mrs. Kay Myers won the door
prize.
4-H Workshop Feb. 23
The Hoke County -4-H Program
is sponsoring a 4-H Public Speak
ing Workshop on February 23 at "*
p.m. at the Lester Building on
South Magnolia Street in Raet'ord.
Ihe workshop is open to all
youth 9- 19 years old. Basics will be
covered .
One of the purposes of the
workshop is to prepare youth who
are interested in entering the 4-H
Public Speaking Contest on March
30. Speeches may be on any subject
and should be no less than three
minutes and no more than seven
minutes long.
A junior and senior county
winner will be selected and will
receive a SIO scholarship to be used
tor any 4-H event, such as camp.
Congress, retreats, etc.
All participants will receive rib
bons and certificates.
Youth may register for the
workshop by calling 8~5-21b2.
Valentine Help

Alvin Beatty. 918 N. Jackson St..
reported February 2 someone took
a S75 bicycle from his front porch
January 31. The bike was found
later that day near the ball park at
the National Guard Armory.
Macks Stores reported February
3 someone toQk a pair of gloves
worth S12.97. Victor Dawson. Rt.
3. Box 151 -A. Raeford. was
charged with larceny, and the
gloves were recovered.
Someone tried unsuccessfully to
break into the office of Raeford
Lumber Co. February 3. A screen
was found removed from a w indow,
and a window pane broken. The
damage amounted to $5.
Willie James Eleby reported he
found his car's windshield cracked
in the parking lot of the House of
Raeford February 4 when he got off
work at the plant. About $200
damage was done.
Mrs. Wanda Duddey, 212 S.
Bethel Rd.. reported February 4
someone entered her home and
stole her telephone worth $50 and
three "wheat" pennies.
Joe Jenkins of Southern Pines
reported Friday someone stole the
tour hubcaps, worth $500. from his
1979 Mercury while it was parked
in the Hoke County High School
parking lot.
Family Dollar Store reported
Saturday a juvenile concealed two
toy trucks worth $1.98. The trucks
were recovered, and the case was
turned over to the juvenile
authorities.
City Ptl. George Baker dis
covered the theft of a battery from a
car at Raeford Auto Co. Sunday
when he investigated on noticing
the hood of the vehicle was raised
about an inch. The battery was
valued at $60.
Someone stole the battery, worth
$56. from a Raeford Lumber Co.
truck Monday while it was parked
on company property.
Geraldine Galberth reported
Monday her son's $109 bicycle was
stolen after he left it parked at the
entrance of Raeford Apartments.
