Eugene Gillis is recuperating at
home from a multi-fractured leg
and ankle he received while sawing
wood. Am happy to report that he
is getting along real well and hopes
to soon have a walking cast on.

ferred from Veterans Hospital in
Durham to Hillhaven Sunnybrook
Nursing Home in Raleigh.

Keever Is Appointed
District Court Judge
Anna Elizabeth Keever, 31, of
Fayetteville, a Cumberland County
assistant district attorney, was
appointed Thursday a District
Court judge by Gov. James B.
Hunt, Jr.
She was named to fill the vacancy
created by the retirement February
1 of Judge Derb C. Carter. The
judgeship is in the 12th Judicial
District, which is composed of
Cumberland and Hoke counties.
She will serve the unexpired
portion of Carter's four-year term,
which ends December 5.
Keever is a candidate for election
to the regular four-year term of the
position. She Tiled January 4 for
election to the judgeship Carter was
leaving.
Keever has been an assistant
district attorney in the 12th since
1975 after graduating earlier that
year from the University of North
Carolina School of Law at Chapel
Hill. Since then she has become
senior district attorney.
She is a native of Surry County
and graduated magna cum laude
from the University of North
Carolina at Greensboro with a
degree of Bachelor of Arts in
history before entering law school.
Before joining the DA's staff in
Fayetteville, she served as a
summer intern in the U.S. Middle
District court prosecuting at- JjJ)
torney's office in Greensboro.
Keever is a member of CARE
Domestic Violance Project Ad
visory Board and is a former
member of the Fayetteville Tech
nical Institute Paralegal Advisory
Board.
Postal Exams
The Raeford Post Office is going
to give the entrance examinations
for the positions of clerk and U
carrier at the local Post Office.
Applications to take the examina
tion will be accepted February 1 1
through February 20.
