I THURSDAY, MAY 13, 1982 I Read Mark 9:33-37 The executives finished dining. The speaker rose and pointed to the door: "If Shakespeare should come I into this room," ne said, "we would I all stand up. But there is one ft Other. If Jesus Christ should come in, we would all kneel down and touch the hem of His garment." It is interesting how our posture I telegraphs a loud message. We I think of bigger as better. A I standing ovation symbolizes a su preme compliment. We speak of "climbing the ladder." Yet Jesus I turned all this upside down. He I revolutionized our longings by I starting a movement which requires I its members to become servants. I Jesus said, "If anyone wants to I come with me he must forget I himself, carry his cross, and follow I me." "If any one would be first he must be last of all and servant of all." Greatness in God's eyes is a door I through which all may pass, and it I is entered through servanthood. ? PRAYER: Almighty God, when ever we are tempted to yield to seeking stature in the eyes of ? others, amy we turn our minds ? toward how we can please You. Amen I THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Greatness comes through ser vanthood. ? , "tt>fm1*ht--THE UPPER ROOM PI** IHM ipSWMi (Indiana)
