Bucks 3rd In Conference Track Meet The Hoke High Bucks track team placed third over-all in the Southeastern Conference track meet Thursday at Scotland High School. This was the first time that the Bucks have finished that high in several years. Pinecrest won the meet with 130 points, and E.E. Smith was next with 108. Hoke scored 86. Jay Headen won the 100-meter i and 200-meter dashes. He also ran on the 400-meter relay team, which placed sixth, and the 800-meter relay team, which finished fifth. Paul Hunt broke his own school record in the 3, 200-meter run with a time of 9:40.6. He also finished second in the 1,600-meter run, breaking his own record in the process. The mile relay team of Jerry McMillian, David McCrimmon, David McMillian and Willie Bridges finished second and broke its old school record with a time of 3:32.49. The Hoke track coach con gratulated the members of the squad on a job well done. Softball League Opens The Hoke County Parks and Recreation Men's Softball League got off to a good start May 4. In the first game, Jones Inter cable defeated the All Stars 15-5 in five innings. Leading batters for Jones Intercable were W. Johnson 4-4, D. McNeill 2-3 with one home run. T. Frahm 2-4, M. Lewis 2-3, and L. Chason 2-4. The All Stars' leading batters were R. Singletary 1-1, P. Miller 1-3, A. Breeden 1-2, G. Maynor 1-3, and R. Maynor 1-2. In the second game, Hollings worth Barbers defeated Ephesus A's 14-2. Hollingsworth Barbers scored six runs in the first inning to take control of the game. Leading batters for Hollingsworth were G. McPhatter 1-1, G. Hollingsworth 3-4, L. McDonald 2-3, and C. Patterson 2-3. Ephesus A's leading batters were C. Godbold 1-2, B. Blankenship 1-2, and J.D. Black 1-2. Last game of the night matched Hard & Heavy against The Raeford Merchants. Hard & Heavy ga thered the win 14-10. Hard & Heavy were led by M. McDougald 3-4. J. Quick 2-3, and K. Mc Donald 2-4. Merchants were led by D. McNeill 2-2, R. Frahm 3-4 with one home run. and D. Deaton 1-1. Thursday night action saw Hard & Heavy, All Stars and Beasley Body Shop come out as winners. In the first game, Hard & Heavy defeated Ephesus 10-0. Hard & Heavy were led by S. Wallace 1-1, P. Jordan 2-4, V. McDougald 1-3, and H. Holt 1-3. Ephesus hitting attack came from R. Home 1-3, R. Davis 1-2, and H. Harris 1-2. In the second game, the All Stars defeated Hollingsworth Barbers 12-6. M. Brown 3-4, R. Maynor 2-3 with one home run, G. Maynor 2-4, and D. HufT2-3 with one home run were the leading batters for the All Stars. Hollingsworth's were led by G. McPhatter 3-3, G. Hollings worth 3-4, D. Monroe 2-4, and E. Roper 2-4. In the last game of the week, Beasley Body Shop defeated Jones Intercable 24-14. K. Judaz 3-4, M. Sutton 3-4 with one home run, R. Edward 3-5 with one home run, G. Mauney 3-5, L. Huffman 2-4 and H. Awards to be given are: Regular Season Champs, Regular Season Runner-ups, Tournament Champs and Tournament Runner-ups. 7.
