Burlington Sales Lower
Burlington Industries. Inc. today
reported tower sales and earnings
for both its third fiscal quarter and
the first nine months of the 1982
fiscal year.
Consolidated ret sales for the
quarter ended July 3, 1982 were
5719,395,000 on which the com
pany's consolidated net earnings
were $12,834,000 or 45 cents per
share. In the comparable period
last year, Burlington reported net
sales of S858,426,000 on which the
company's net earnings were S35,
078,000 or SI .25 per share.
For the nine months ended July
3,1982 consolidated net tales were
$2,199,233,000 compared to $2,
386,345,000 in the prior year. Net
earnings were $44,480,000 or $1.57
per share compared to $80,140,000
or $2.85 per share last year.
As a matt of adopting PASB
Statement No. 52 in the first
quarter of 1982, the effect of
foreign currency items is not com
parable with those reported in 1981
as prior year results were not
restated. Foreign currency items
included in the earnings statement
for the third quarter of fiscal 1982
were not material. The fiscal 1981
results included gains from foreign
currency items of 26 cents per share
in the third quarter and 68 cents
per share for the nine months.
Klopman, chairman and chief
executive officer, commented,
"The third quarter results reflect a
continuation of the economic weak
ness which has persisted in this
fiscal year. There was virtually no
segment of our business which was
not adversely affected. Current
order rates would indicate there
will be no significant upturn prior
to the end of fiscal 1962."
