Treatment (Continued from page I) quest to authorize spending up to $1,500 more to have a sewer line to the Raeford-Hoke Village shopping center built. Matthews said the cost would total S6.200 to $6,500, and that the city has $5,000 in its budget for the expense now. The shopping center is under construction on a tract at Cole Avenue Extension and U.S. 401 south bypass. Referring to last week's discover)' of a sewer-line break, Matthews explained that a leak was reported at 10:15 a.m. July 25 by a private citizen and at first was believed to be in the Armory Park area. But Bill Sellars, city public works director, found the cause on East Prospect Avenue after "walking" the routes of the lines, which are underground. A state technician also was called in. and when the break was discovered, necessary equipment, including some from Asheboro, was assembled Wednesday, and the repair work was started at 7:30 a.m. Thursday. The repair was completed some time later. Matthews said the line appeared as though it had been sawed in two, but the cause of the break wa^ believed caused by the accumulated effects of the pounding of the pavement above the line by traffic on the street over a period of time. The break occurred in a 24-inch pipe, Matthews said. ? * ? The council also adopted a motion to meet at 7:30 p.m. August 16 with the Hoke County com missioners to discuss matters con cerning the city-county landfill operation. The meeting was re quested by the county commis sioners for "all parties concerned." ? * * Since the next regular meeting of the council falls on Labor Day, the :ouncil adopted a motion post poning the regular session for September to September 13.
