Vows In Baptist Church Sunday

Madden on Sunday, August 15, at
5:00 p.m., in the Raeford First
Baptist Church. The Rev. Billy C.
Beaver and the Rev. Mack Mussel
white officiated for the double ring
ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs.
Robert L. Harrell and the late
Robert L. Harrell of Raeford, and
the bridegroom, the son of Mr. and
* Mrs. James L. Madden of Raeford.
? A program of wedding music was
presented by Mrs. Glenn Langdon,
organist, and Lester Southern,
vocalist, who sang "That's The
Way," and "The Lord's Prayer."
The church was adorned with a
mixture of pink carnations, la
vender astromeua lilies, pink snap
dragons, lavender chrysanthe
mums, pink varigated miniature
^ carnations and white snapdragons.
* Two large arrangements were used
on the two nine-branched candel
abra and in an arrangement in the
baptistry. The traditional prie-dieu
with flowered garland was flanked
by a pair of fifteen-branched
candelabra intertwined with flower
ed garland. Two seven-branched
candelabra with greenery also com
plimented the altar area. A garland
of greenery with white wedding
^ bows and streamers was used to
adorn the choir area. The couple
signified their union by lighting the
trinity candelabra intertwined with
greenery. Reserved pews for the
family were marked with hurricane
globes centered in an arrangement
of snapdragons, miniature carna
tions and pom pons carrying out
the wedding motif. An arrange
ment of pink rubium lilies, pink
\ carnations, and corkscrew willow
was placed in the vestibule on an
antique table belonging to the
bride's mother and accented by a
single taper.
Given in marriage by her
brother, the bride wore a formal
gown with white dacron organza
featuring a Queen Qnne neckline,
fitted bodice and Bishop sleeves all
lavishly decorated with Alencon
lace and pearls. The gown featured
I a Cathedral train with attached
ruffled pleated organza accented by
Alencon lace. The matching full
brim hat adorned with pleated
organza lace and Alencon lace was
decorated with a pickup side with
attached silk flowers and French
netting.
She carried a cascading bouquet
of six cattieya orchids white with
( lavender throats, surrounded by a
dozen pink bridal roses and gypso
phila and trimmed with white satin
bridal ribbon and love knot
streamers.
Mrs. Yvonne Harrell, sister-in
law of the bride, of Southern Pines,
served as matron of honor. She
wore a pink underskirt gown with
white chiffon overdress accented by
ruffled flounce attached to the on
or off the shoulder bodice. The
i natural waistline was accented by a
silk flower. Her headpiece was a
heather wreath interlaced with
pearl babies' breath trimmed with
a two tone satin ribbon. She carried
a cascading bouquet of lavender
astromeria lilies, pink rubium
lilies, pink bridal roses, gypsophila,
and springeri trimmed with pink
lace and streamers.
Bridesmaids were Leslie and Lisa
Madden, sisters of the bridegroom,
Raeford; Betsy Stubbs, Lumber
ton; Angie Breeden, Laurinburg;
Sarah Hughes, Morehead City;
Wanda Douglas, cousin of the
bride, Florida. The bridesmaids
wore identical gowns like that of
the matron of honor except in the
color of lavender. They carried
cascading bouquets of pink rubium
lilies, lavender astromeria lilies,
gypsophila, springeri, and lavender
lace streamers.
Best man was James Madden,
father of the bridegroom. Ushers
were Greg Davis, Stephen Knox,
Donald Calloway, Phillip Man
ning and Kevin Davis.
Flower girls were Mandy Harrell,
niece of the bride of Southern Pines
and Wendy Wood of Raeford. They
wore gowns featuring an on or off
the shoulder neckline accented with
a ruffled band and self fabric
flowers. The skirt featured a full
flounce at the hemline. The match
ing headpieces were a band of pink
silk flowers adorned with greenery
and pink satin ribbon and bows.
They carried white fireside baskets
trimmed with a pink lace bow and
streamers filled with pink rose
petals.

The junior bride was Lesley
Harrell, .niece of the bride of
Southern Pines. She wore a Chan
tilly lace gown featuring a fitted
bodice with a V-neckline and fitted
sleeves. The gown skirt featured a
tier on tier Chantilly lace with
attached Chapel train. Her head
piece featured a full brim hat
covered in Chantilly lace and satin
ribbon with pickup on one side
adorned with silk flowers and
greenery. She carried a bouquet
identical to that of the bride except
smaller. The junior groom was
Michael Hedgpeth. He wore an
identical tux like that of the
bridegroom.
The mother of the bride wore a
forma gown of Beet Chiffon
fashioned with spaghetti straps and
a natural waist bodice, with a full
circular skirt, and a matching
chiffon jacket with long sleeves and
a small ruffle down the front and
on the cuffs. Her corsage was a
white orchid.
The bridegroom's mother wore a
formal gown of mauve chiffon,
round neck and elbow length
sleeves with tucks on the bodice
and sleeves. A softly gathered skirt
with tucks on the hemline tied with
a satin sash. She also wore a white
orchid corsage.
After a wedding trip to Myrtle
Beach, the couple will be at home
in Raeford.
The bride is a graduate of Flora
MacDonald Academy and will
attend Fayetteville Technical Insti
tute in the fall.
The bridegroom is a graduate of
Hoke High School and Pembroke
State University with a B.S. in
Sociology. He is employed with
UCB in Fayetteville.
RECEPTION
Immediately following the wed
ding a reception was given by the
bride's mother at the bride and
groom's home on 423 East Edin
borough. The table was covered
with a lace cloth and beautifully
decorated in white, pink and
lavender and pink candles. The
wedding cake was served by Mrs.
Ransom Baucom and Mrs. Betty
Knox. The punch was served by
Mrs. Sara Grinstead, and Mrs.
Helen Tutor. Mr. and Mrs. Horace
Stogner received at the door and
Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Wood Jr.
said goodbyes.
LUNCHEON
The bride and her attendant
were entertained with a luncheon at
the home of Mrs. John Haire on
Saturday, August 14. The hostess
presented the bride-elect with a
corsage of pink roses. Places were
laid for 14.
POST-REHEARSAL DINNER
Following the rehearsal a pig
picking dinner was given for the
members of the wedding party, and
out-of-town guests at the Pittman
Grove Church. Hosting the occa
sion were Mr. and Mrs. James L.
Madden.
The tables were covered with
white cloths and centered with
lined baskets filled with babies
breath.
BRIDESMAID LUNCHEON
A bridesmaid luncheon was
given for Lynne Harrell, Saturday,
August 14 at the home of Mrs. John
Thomas Haire. Mrs. Rosa Cole,
Mrs. Virginia Harrell, and Mrs.
Emma Hardin were co-hostesses.
Upon arrival the honoree was
given a corsage of pink rose buds.
The brides table was centered
with an arrangement of mixed
summer flowers. Rose arrange
ments were used throughout the
house.
A delicious meal of ham, potato
salad, green beans, congealed
salad, biscuits, tea, and homemade
ice cream was served to the
seventeen guests present. Special
guest was the grandmother of the
bride, Mrs. Lula Tutor of Vero
Beach, Florida.
The hostesses presented the
honoree with a cup and saucer in
her chosen china pattern.

Mrs. Niven's brother-in-law and
sister. Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Garrett,

past weekend. They were met there
by Miss Caroline Niven of Raleigh.
Mrs. J.C. McLean has returned
home from Statesville and Win
ston-Salem after the illness and
death of her sister, Mrs. Sophia
Henninger Steele.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Morris have as
their visitor Mrs. Morris' mother,
Mrs. A.A. Pernell. Mrs. Pernell is
formerly of Louisburg and has
resided at the Vance Manor Rest
Home in Henderson for the past
several months.

Bridge Club
Members of the bridge club of
Mrs. Bill Lamont honored her
granddaughter. Miss Mary Will
cox, September bride-elect on
Thursday evening of last week. All
club members, Mrs. Palmer Will
cox, and Mrs. Carlton Niven,
guests, met at the home of Mrs.
W.L. Howell.
Guests were seated at the dining
room table, centered with an
arrangement of roses, and at a
table in the living room, where they
were served homemade ice cream
and brownies. After refreshments
Miss Willcox was showered with
gifts from those present.
The club traditionally honors
each bride-elect of a member of the
club at a bridal shower. Miss
Willcox is the first grandchild to be
engaged and the tradition con
tinued to the next generation.
Mrs. Niven was high scorer and
Mrs. T.B. Lester, club high scorer,
at the conclusion of the bridge
game following the shower.

her bridge club on Tuesday evening
of last week.
Guests were served pie and iced
tea upon arrival from a table
centered with varicolored summer
flowers in a miniature crystal
epergne. During play an assort
ment of candy and chips were

Club Saturday
Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Austin enter
tained the members of the Couple's
Club at their home on Saturday
evening.
All members were present. At
the end of the game prizes went to
Mrs. W.T. Gibson and Charlie
Morrison, ladies and men, high
scorers, respectively.

On Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Dick White were
honored on their silver wedding
anniversary at a surprise reception
and dinner upon their arrival in
Bucyrus, Ohio, on Thursday even
ing of last week.
They had gone to Ohio, accom
panied by their daughter, Mrs.
Cathy James, their son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Michael White, for a visit with
relatives. After arriving at the
home of Mr. White's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Donald White, they were
entertained at the home of his
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Eugene Smith. Members of
the family gathered for the occa
sion. After an abundant dinner
they were again surprised with a
wedding cake made by their niece,
Mrs. Cathy Nafzinzer.
The honored guests were
presented a silver cheese dish with
an attached silver knife and a
dome crystal lid.

Beth Gillis and David Willis were

Friday night at the Officers Club at
Pope Air Force Base.
After a steak dinner and danc
ing, the honored couple was con

Approximately 150 members and
friends of the Mclnnis Clan
gathered at Dundarrach Presby
terian Church Sunday, 15 Aug. 82.
This was the 55th meeting of the
Clan.
Lt. Col. Ret. William Speight of
Hope Mills. N.C. was guest
speaker. He also sang a solo, "How
Great Thou Art."

After the program was finished, a
bountiful picnic lunch was served
