Four Retire From Burlington Here
Four long-service employees
recently retired from the Raeford
Plant of Burlington Industries.
These employees have a combin
ed record of over 100 years un
broken service.
Those with at least 10 years un
broken service who are age 55 or
older receive a Retirement Bible
with their name and service record
printed in the front.
Those with 25 or more years un
broken service receive a Retire
ment Plaque engraved with their
service record and signed by the
Chairman of the Board, William
A. Klopman.
Charlie F. Burke began work
with the Raeford Plant in 1952, as
a Mechanic No. 2 in the
Maintenance Department. He re
mained in the shop his entire
career. Since 1965, Burke has held
the position of Maintenance
Technician No. 1, Machinist.
Preston Moore also began work
in the Maintenance Department.
In 1959, he started as a plant ser
vice man. Through the years he
worked in several capacities. In
1975, he was appointed as
Maintenance Technician No. 11
where he served until his recent
retirement.
Nellie M. Woodcox's unbroken
service dates back to 1954, when
she began work as a Winder
Tender in the Winding Depart
ment. Over the years Mrs. Wood
cox was an operator on a number
of types of Winding and Twisting
machines. For the last 12 years, she
has been a Volkmann operator.
Mary C. Rose began her un
broken service record in 1962, in
the Winding Department as a Ply
Winder Tender. In 1968, she
transferred to the Preparation
Department where she has worked
as a Backwinder until her recent
retirement.

Of Kiwanians
Congressman Bill Hefner,
D-N.C., was scheduled to be the
guest of the Raeford Kiwanis Club
on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the
| Raeford Civic Center.
He was invited by David War
ren.
Hefner was elected to congress
in 1974. He is currently a member
of the House Budget Committee
and the House Appropriations
Committee.
Extended Day Program Slated
The Hoke County Extended Day
Progtam will hold classes Mondays
through Thursdays from 3 p.m. to
8 p.m. and Fridays from 3 p.m. to
5 p.m.
Anyone interested in obtaining a
high school diploma through this
program is advised to contact the
program at the high school. In
formation may be obtained by
galling Dwight F. Jackson, re
cruiter/DCT coordinator, or Joe G.
Jenkins, academic coordinator, at
875-2156.
A limited number of jobs are
available for students.
The program offers courses for
students who cannot attend the
high school classes held during the
regular hours.

In the absence of Dr. David
Sutton, Pastor of Galatia Church,
Mr. George Whipple was guest
speaker for the morning worship
service the past Sunday.
Mr. Whipple is from Philadel
phia, Pennsylvania and is currently
a third year student at Union
Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.
He is now serving the First Presby
terian Church it? Rockingham as a
student-in-ministry. He has also
served as a chaplain at Emary
University in Atlanta, Georgia. He
brought an excellent message to the
congregation.
Dr. and Mrs. David Sutton will
return from summer vacation Mon
day, August 23rd. Dr. Sutton will
be back in the pulpit Sunday,
August 29th.
The Youth Group of Galatia
Presbyterian Church have returned
from a wonderful camping trip to
the mountains. Mr. and Mrs. John
Gillis and Mr. and Mrs. Robert
McKethan chaperoned the group
and all report a good time.
Sandy Grove United Methodist
Church had their annual family
picnic Saturday August 21st at
Rockfish Methodist Youth Camp.
Swimming, canoeing and various
games were enjoyed and was con
cluded with a picnic supper on the
pavillion. It was well attended and
everyone enjoyed themselves.
Tabernacle Baptist Church spon
sored a "Hee-Haw" last Friday
evening in the Fellowship Hall at
the Church. Various church mem
bers portrayed the actors and
musicians on the Hee-Haw tele
vision program. It was well at
tended and a real good evening of
entertainment and laughs!
The Youth Group of Tabernacle
Baptist Church presented a musical
program Sunday evening, directed
by Mrs. Archie Barringer assisted
by other ladies of the church. The
program was real enjoyable.
Mrs. Grady English visited her
sister, Mrs. Arthur Lee Watson
and Mr. Watson last week.
Mrs. Amos Grant, Jr. spent
several days the past week with her
daughter, Mrs. Dennis Davis and
Mr. Davis of Selma. Mrs. Davis
had a foot injury from a freak
accident while at the beach the
previous weekend. However, Mrs.
Davis is recuperating nicely and
will be back to her teaching job that
begins this week.
Mrs. Alton McCulloch was ad
mitted to Cape Fear Valley Hospi
tal in Fayetteville the past Sunday
for tests and possible surgery.
Mrs. "Chip" Rooks recently
returned from spending a week
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Homer Patterson in Tifton, Geor
gia. While there she also visited her
husbands parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles F. Rooks also of Tifton.
Little Matthew Rooks, son of
Mr. and Mrs. "Chip" Rooks
celebrated his third birthday with a
party at home the past Sunday
afternoon. He had a birthday cake
decorated with cowboys and race
cars made by his mother and
homemade ice cream. Among those
attending were Mr. and Mrs.
Kermit Short and children, Curtis.
Kathryn and Traci of Fayetteville.
Elbert Dees has been released
from the hospital and is back home
again.
