Mrs. Mclauchlin
Honored
At Antioch
Mrs. Thomas N. McLauchlin
was perfectly at home on Saturday
afternoon when the manse at
Antioch Presbyterian Church was
the setting for a "drop-in" honor
ing her.
She was Emeline Hanna in 1924
when her father, the late Rev.
George W. Hanna became Anti
och's Pastor. Her mother is re
ported to have actually drawn the
plans for the gracious house built in
1925.
Misses Willa, Eloise, Bonnie and
P Jeanette McLauchlin, sisters-in-law
of Mrs. McLauchlin, were host
esses with the present mistress of
the manse, Mrs. Charles Ansley,
assisting.
After being welcomed at the
front door by Miss Willa Mc
Lauchlin, guests registered and
then were greeted in the entrance
hall by Mrs. Ansley.
^ Mrs. McLauchlin, in the living
P room, received affectionate good
wishes and enjoyed reminiscences
with about 65 callers between three
and four-thirty. She will move to
High Point this week, joining her
sisters, Rachel McCauley and Sara
Louise Hanna in the Presbyterian
Home there.
Also receiving in the living room
were Misses Bonnie and Eloise
McLauchlin. Miss Jeanette Mc
t Lauchlin and Mrs. Charles Daniels
greeted guests in the dining room.
The refreshment table was cen
tered with a colorful bouquet of
yellow, gold, and white chrysan
themums and daisies. Mrs. Robert
L. Gibson had thoroughly planned
the floral arrangement and had
gathered roses from her garden for
the corsages and bouquets.
Mrs. Charles Raynor of Fay
etteville, Mrs. McLauchlin's
daughter, and Miss Caroline
Ansley, daughter of the Rev. and
Mrs. Ansley, presided at the tea
table. An assortment of party foods
and confections was served with
cranberry punch.
Callers included guests from
Laurinburg, Red Springs, Raeford.
Gibson, Fayetteville, and other
near-by areas.
Births
Sgt. and Mrs. Arol H. Smith, Jr.,
(Buster) announce the birth of a
daughter, Jennie Lynn on Sep
tember 26 at Moore Memorial
Hospital. Mrs. Smith is the former
Jean Lentz.
First Lt. and Mrs. Roy N. Lane, III
presently stationed at Kadena Air
Base, Okinawa, announce the birth
of a son Phillip Roy, on September
10 at the U.S. Naval Regional
Medical Center, Okinawa. Mrs.
Lane is the former Kathy Stephens
of Raeford.

Ricky Jones
Ricky Jones, son of Mr. and Mr.
Marty Jones, celebrated his fourth
birthday with a party Sunday
afternoon at home. Hot dogs,
baked beans and chips were served
with assorted iced beverages.
After Ricky opened his gifts,
everyone enjoyed birthday cake and
ice cream.

Mrs. Clellon McKenzie was
honored at a birthday steak dinner
cookout Sunday, Sept. 16, at the
home of her son and daughter-in
law, Mr. and Mrs. James D.
McKenzie.
Mrs. McKenzie's children, Mrs.
Larry Dunsheel, Miss Teresa Mc
Kenzie, along with the host were
present, along with other members
of the family.

Fourteen members of the Arts
Department of the Raeford Wo
mans Cub attended the "Fayette
ville Little Theater" on Thursday
evening of last week. The Play
"The Importance of Being Earn
est" by Oscar Wilde, was presented
by the Hastings Theater Guild of
Hasting, England.
Workshop Held
GFWC, Arts Department of the
Raeford Womans Club had a
workshop meeting, led by Mrs. Jim
Fant, project chairman, at the
assembly room at Hoke County
Library on Wednesday of last week.
Tea baskets were made to sell in
order to raise funds for their service
projects and support arts projects.

speaking last Monday evening to other members of the Hoke chapter at a
dinner meeting that was a Ticket Campaign Kickoff The Symphony's
associate conductor. James Ogle, was guest speaker at the meeting, which
was held in the Education Building of Antioch Presbyterian Church.

spending several weeks at Holden
Beach.
Mrs. William Lamont and Mrs.
W.T. Gibson returned Sunday
after a trip to South Carolina where
Mrs. Lamont visited Mr. and Mrs.
Malloy Lamont in Columbia, and
Mrs. Gibson visited Mr. and Mrs.
Norris Hook in Leesville, S.C. On
Friday they went to Hilton Head to
spend the weekend in the home of
Mrs. Gibson's brother-in-law and
sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Harkey.

Meets With
Mrs. Britt
The Raeford Junior Woman's
Club held its first board meeting of
the club year September 7, 1982. at
the home of Mrs. Robert Britt. At
this time, plans were finalized for
the spaghetti supper to be held on
September 21. 1982.
Gwen Booker, chairman of Ways
and Means, proposed several fund
raising projects for the year. The
board selected three of these to be
presented to the clubs for approval
at its first meeting. September 20,
1982. New department chairmen
also obtained lists of their prospec
tive members and duties.
A membership drive to be held in
October was discussed and pro
spective members names were
given. Tickets for the spaghetti
supper were distributed to depart
ment chairmen before adjourn
ment.

Mrs. Thomas McLauchlin will
leave Raeford Friday to spend the
night in the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Marie Raynor in Fayetteville,
and on to High Point Saturday
where she plans to be at home at
the Presbyterian Home. She was
honoree on Wednesday evening of
last week, when her Sunday School
Class, "Class of the Covenant" of
the Raeford Presbyterian Church
met at the home of Mrs. Herbert
McKeithan.
The twenty-nine members
present served themselves from an
abundant buffet. The guest of
honor table was centered with a
beautiful arrangement of white
chrysanthemums and smaller
tables were centered with small
arrangements of mums.
Mrs. McLauchlin was presented
a gift and many praises for her
years of devoted services to the class
and the Presbyterian Church.

Club at their home on Friday
evening of last week.

before the game.

ber bride-elect of Authur Weaver of
Revere, Mass., was honored Satur
day at a luncheon at the home of
Mrs. J.W. Walker. Miss McMillan
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
David McMillan of Fayetteville and
granddaughter of Mrs. G.C. Lytle
of Antioch.
Seventeen guests enjoyed a deli
cious three course meal. The house
and tables were beautifully decor
ated with assorted fall flowers and
roses.

Ladies To Attend
Fashion Show
Forty-five ladies of Raeford will
attend the "Capitol Fashion Show"
in Fayetteville this Thursday. They
will board a bus, sent to pick them
up by The Capitol, at 9:30 a.m.
and after the show will be treated to
a free luncheon before their return
to Raeford.

To Hold Meet
The Friendship Club will meet at
the Raeford United Methodist
Church, Tuesday October 5, at
2:30 p.m.
Dr. Eugene McKeithan, head
master at Flora Macdonald
Academy, Red Springs, will be the
guest speaker. His subject will be
on the "Relationships of Private
and Public Schools" and will
include the history and background
of Flora Macdonald Academy.
