Meetings Wed. 8 p.m. Nursing Home Dining Room [ Bucks Eye Last Victory < The Hoke High Bucks arc hop ing to end the season on a winning note as they take on Lumberton in an on-the-road contest Friday night. The Bucks take a record identi cal to Lumberton's into the contest and head Coach Tom Jones is [ optimistic of his team's chances. "It we maintain the level of performance we had Friday night against E.E. Smith, then we should i be able to win," Jones said. After holding E.E. Smith to 164 yards of total offense, the Bucks lost the game in the closing seconds of the fourth period. "It was the best performance of the year by our offensive line," Jones said. During the game the Bucks offense was able to move the ball and stay on the field with the historically stingy Golden Bulls defense. The Bucks amassed over 200 yards total offense and made 13 first downs, while the Golden Bulls were held to seven first downs and only completed two of 13 passes. "We were pleased with the way our defense played, but they have played tough all year," the coach said. Offensively, one of the best performances of the evenings was turned in by tight end Gary Stephens. Stephens made six catches for 115 yards and ran well after he caught the ball, Jones said, noting that the junior player also blocked well during the game. Running back Calvin Dixon also had a good game, Jones added. With the Bucks trailing 6-0 late in the game, Dixon scored on a 13-yard run to tie the contest. The extra point attempt failed. E.E. Smith's Fred Clark put the Golden Bulls ahead late in the fourth period with a 10-yard run for his second touchdown of the even ing. He also added two points after the touchdown. This makes his total for the year 24 passes caught for a club leading high of 532 yards. "Gary caught the ball well and then did some excellent running after the catch," said Coach Tom Jones. "In addition his blocking was the best it has been all year. Gary played a complete game doing all the things a receiver must do catching, running, and blocking." Jones said. Gary is a well rounded athlete who plays three sports for the Bucks. Gary has played football on both the 9th grade and J.V. squads. He has also done the same in basketball and baseball. He is looking forward to playing on the varsity teams in both of these sports this season. However, sports are not Gary's entire life. Gary is a member of the Hoke High Spanish Club.
