Raeford Veterans At Dedication
Raeford veterans of the Vietnam
War were among the North
Carolina veterans of that war who
attended the dedication of the
Vietnam War Memorial Saturday
in Wasington, D.C.
The memorial honors the 57,939
American soldiers killed there in
cluding four Hoke County men.
Willie McCaskill and James
McLean, who served in Vietnam in
1967-68, were among the nearly
200,000 who attended the
ceremonies. McCaskill and
McLean also marched with the
North Carolina group of veterans
in the parade that was part of the
ceremony. The parade was called
by Washingtonians one of the big
gest held in the nation's capital in
years, McCaskill said.
McCaskill served with the
American Division and was award
ed the Bronze Star.
McLean served with the 101st
Airborne Division.

and nation that have been formed
through adoption, and to focus
attention on the vast number of
children who are still in need of
permanent homes with loving
parents to call their own," Hunt
wrote in a special proclamation
announting adoption week.
N.C. Secretary of Human Re
sources Dr. Sarah T. Morrow
stated that "During this special
week, county social services depart
ments, private adoption agencies,
adoption advocacy groups and
adoptive parent groups across the
state will be making an effort to let

A 4-H Club is being organized in
the Stonewall-Dundarrach area of
Hoke County.
An organizational meeting will
be held on Thursday, December 2,
at 7:30 p.m. at the Stonewall Fire
Department.
All interested youth and adults

Golf Tournament
The 6th Annual Christmas Seals
Golf Tournament for the Mid-State
Region of the American Lung
Association of North Carolina,
which includes Hoke County, is set
for Saturday, December 4, and
Sunday, December 5, at the Mid
Pines Golf Course, Southern Pines,
N.C.
This annual tournament, as a
promotion of the Lung Associa
tion's yearly Christmas Seals Cam
paign, always draws a capacity
enrollment for the two-day event.
Entries are now being accepted
in three divisions: Men, Women
and Mixed. The format of play will
be "Two Man, Better Ball" with
awards to be given for both gross
and net scores.
There will also be awards for
closest to the pin on holes 2,8, 11
and 13 each day of play.
Entry fee for the tournament is
$20.00 per person, per day (tax
deductible). Starting times will be
assigned as preferred upon receipt
of entry fee. Entry deadline is
Wednesday, December 1.
