McAllister is associate superintendent of Hoke County schools, and Mrs. McAllister is West Hoke School librarian. The McAllisters' appointments were announced at a meeting of the Board of Directors of the American Lung Association of North Carolina, Mid-State Region, held recently in Southern Pines. The occasion marked the opening of the American Lung Association's 75th annual Christmas Seals Campaign, which is being conducted nationwide dur ing November and'tJ^einber. Other Hoke Countfr-rapcesen - tatives at the 1982 campaign kickoff meeting were Ken Withers poon, president of the Regional Board of Directors who presided over the 1982 kickoff meeting; D. McAllister stated that "The American Lung Association is the nation's first voluntary health agency formed to fight * specific disease - Tuberculosis." "Today, contributions to the Lung Associa tion support an expanded health program that not only continues its work to prevent and control TB, but also Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, Asthma, occupational lung diseases and other respiratory conditions affecting both children and adults." Christmas Seals are now being mailed to thousands of North Carolinians who annually con tribute to this worthy cause. McAllister states that "907* of the funds raised by Christmas Seals remains in North Carolina, with 70ft of that amount available for local regional work. The other 10ft is shared with the American Lung Association to help support national research projects and pro duction of educations materials for use in North Carolina." All Christmas Seals contribu tions are received and recorded in the Lung Association's central of fice in Raleigh and then distributed to the regional office for work in the local community from where the contribution came.
