Russell - Crawley Vows Exchanged Sunday Vernon C. Crawley of Rt. 2, Raeford, and Robert Russell of ^ Burlington, N.C. were married Sunday afternoon, December 19 at 3:00 p.m. at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. Billy C. Beaver. The Rev. Beaver officiated. Mrs. Sandy James, daughter of Ms. Crawley was matron of honor. Herman Boswell, brother-in-law of Mr. Russell was best man. Beverly Tillman was soloist and Mrs. Beverly Tillman was pianist. Billy Crawley and Andy James, ^ son and son-in-law of Ms. Crawley ? were ushers in attendance. A reception was held following the marriage in the dining room of the Beaver's home. Mrs. Charlene Britt of Fairmont, sister of Mrs. Duplicate Club Members Meet ^ For Luncheon Members of the duplicate club were entertained last Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Neill McFadyen with Mrs. Hubert Wooten, co hostess. The first course of the three course luncheon was served in the living room after which members were seated at the dining room table. A Williamsburg centerpiece was used on the table and each place was marked with a miniature candlestick with lighted candle, which were presented as favors to each person. At the conclusion of the game high score prize went to Mrs. Wooten and second high to Mrs. Neill A. McDonald. ? Two Clubs Meet For Dinner At Walker Home Seasonal decorations at the 'home Of Mi's. J. W.' Walker made a lovely setting for the dinner-bridge Tuesday evening of last week when the members of two bridge clubs ? met for their annual Christmas party. Mrs. Frank McFadyen and Mrs. June Johnson were co hostesses. Members and visitors, Mrs. Wyatt Upchurch, Mrs. Earl Gor don. Mrs. Julian Wright and Mrs. Ransom Baucom, were served a three course dinner at tables in the living room and dining room. Lighted tapers centered Christmas ft wreaths on each table. At the conclusion of the game high score prizes went to Mrs. Julius Jordan and Mrs. Julian Wright. Mrs McKeithon Is Hostess To Bridge Club Mrs. Herbert McKeithan was hostess to the members of her bridge club at a luncheon at her home on Tuesday of last week. Mrs. Bennie Kelly and Mrs. Julian Wright were visitors. Seasonal decorations were used in the entertaining rooms. Guests were seated at the dining table, centered with an arrange W ment of live camelias, for a delicious luncheon. After the bridge game high score prize was awarded to Mrs. T.C. Scarborough. Mrs Leach Hostess At Dmner - Bridge Mrs. Alfred K. Leach was a re cent hostess when she entertained the members of her bridge club and one visitor, Mrs. June Johnson, for the annual Christmas dinner-bridge. A buffet dinner was served from the dining table, centered with an apple tree and lighted tapers. Candles and poinsettias were predominate throughout the * home. Guests were seated at tables in the living room, marked with in dividual candleholders and candles, presented to each member as favors. High score prize was presented to Mrs. Benny McLeod. Other prizes went to Mrs. Martin Webb and Mrs. W.T. Niven and Mrs. Johnson was remembered with a ?4 ?*? Russell, served cake. Mrs. Ethel Hornaday, sister of Mr. Russell, poured punch. Mrs. Myrtle Sap penfield, sister of Mrs. Russell, and Mrs. Allie Boswell, sister of Mr. Russell, presided at the guest register. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Herman Boswell, Mr. and Mrs. Nat Hornaday, Mrs. Nellie Doss, and two of Mr. Russell's nieces, all of Burlington, Mr. and Mrs. Andy James of Jacksonville, Mrs. Charlene Britt of Fairmont, Mrs. Bill Mc Conolley of Raleigh and Edward Norris of Red Springs. Parker - Surgery last Thursday Viola Keaton - released during weekend MOORE MEMORIAL Paul Burnett - entered Saturday Eagle Scout Award Presented To Scott Goller Scott Goller, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Goller of Greensboro, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Younger Snead of Raeford, was among five presented the Eagle Scout awards in a troop of Court of Honor at Guilford College Church in Greensboro recently. The five boys have been active in Troop 109 since they first joined. This past summer, 16 Troop 109 scouts and their adult leaders formed two crews and traveled to New Mexico to hike the rugged mountain trails of the Philmont Scout Ranch for two weeks. Several community groups were the beneficiaries of the Eagle pro jects undertaken by the five scouts. John Goller is troop committee chairman. Scott's mother is the former Miss Jenelle Snead of Raeford. Public Affairs Meets With Mrs. Koonce NFWC, Public Affairs Depart ment of the Raeford Woman's Club, met Tuesday night, December 7, at the home of Mrs. Stanley Koonce with Mrs. Alfred Leach as co-hostess. Miss Caroline Parker, chair man, presided. She opened the meeting with a devotional entitled "Gifts We Can Give Year Around." Mrs. Judy Ferguson, who is the home health nurse in Hoke Coun ty, was speaker for the program. She explained that requirements for home health services are that one must be essentially home bound, must have a skill need and must be under a doctor's care. Referrals can be made by anyone but final signature comes from a doctor. The cost is met through medicare, medicaid, in surance or private funds. They see children as well as older persons. Mrs. Ferguson showed slides of a typical business day. During a business session members were given tips for safety measures during the holidays. Members voted to order lighted telephone dials for sale to persons in the county. A white elephant sale was held to raise money for community pro jects. Those present were invited to the dining room for refreshments of hot Russian tea and assorted Christmas goodies. Gotlins Entertain During Week-end The home of Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Gatlin was the scene for a series of Christmas parties during the past weekend. Co-hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Younger Snead and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McNeill. The hosts entertained couples at open house on Saturday and Sun day from 5 till 7, and the hostesses entertained a group of their lady friends Monday afternoon at 3:30. The lovely home was decorated throughout for the holiday season. Upon arrival guests were elated when they glimpsed the numerous lights on the trees and bushes in the yard. Guests were served punch and helped themselves to an assort ment of Christmas goodies from the dining table, covered with a white linen cloth topped with a cross of red satjn ribbon and centered with an apple tree and lighted tapers. Education Dept. Has Dinner At Restaurant NFWC, Education Department of the Raeford Woman's Club, held its annual December party at the Little Whale Restaurant on Tuesday Evening, December 7. They were joined by their spouses for dinner. Mrs. Ed Willis, Mrs. Ron Mat thews, Mrs. Neill McFadyen, Jr. and Mrs. Kitzy Jones were hostesses. During the social hour after din ner the group enjoyed Christmas games and puzzles directed by Mrs. Willis. McFodyens Host Sociol Hour Mr. and Mrs. Neill McFadyen extended their hospitality to friends and contemporaries at a social houMidd at their home on Sunday evening after the musical program at the Presbyterian Church. Lively conversation and refreshments were enjoyed amid holiday decorations. Mrs Gotlin Hostess To Bridge Club Mrs. Robert Gatlin was hostess to the members of her bridge club and two visitors, Mrs. Chandler Roberts and Mrs. Carlton Niven, on Thursday evening of last week. The home was tastefully decorated with a lighted Christmas tree and other seasonal ar rangements. After the dessert course and cof fee was served, bridge was in play. Mrs. W.T. Gibson was club high scorer and Mrs. Roberts, visitor's high. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dupree spent the weekend in Garner and Smithville visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Bill McPhaul and family of Buena Vista, Va. will spend the holidays here with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. McPhaul and Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Maxwell. Dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. M.V. Peele last Thursday were M rs. Viola McLaughlin and George Peavy of Laurinburg. Over night guests of Mr. and Mrs. Peele on Saluiday night were the Peele's granddaughter, Delaine Peckham of Chapel Hill, and Mike McDonald of Durham.
