Black - Money > > Mrs. Shirley Clifton of Red Spr ings, announces the approaching marriage of her sister, Brenda Chavez Black of Raeford to Ron nie Sanford Money of Red Spr ings. Ronnie is the son of Mr. and Mrs. | Sanford Money of Red Springs. Brenda is the daughter of the late Bessie Wilkes Chavis A. Alex M. Saunders of Antioch. Brenda is employed as Lab Manager at Munsingwear, Inc. A Ronnie is employed at Deering Milliken Company, both in Red Springs. A March 1 8th wedding is planned. * Cain - Sutton Mr. and Mrs. Elwood S. Cain announce the engagement of their daughter, Pamela Oakley, to James Walter Sutton, son of Katheleen Sutton of Ela and the late R. Ray Sutton. [ The wedding is planned for March 19 in Charlotte. The bride-elect is graduate of 1 Terry Sanford High School and ' NCSU. She is an account executive at Southern Bell. The prospective bridegroom, a graduate of Southwestern Technical School, is a maintenance engineer. Mrs. Newton Honor Guest ' On 80th Birthday Mrs. Marshall (Cleva) Newton was guest of honor at a drop-in held on Sunday afternoon at the Wayside Community House. More than a hundred friends and relatives called between 3 and 5 to celebrate the occasion of her 80th birthday. Hosts for the occasion were her ' children, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin B. Newton of Route 4, Raeford, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Brisson of St. Pauls, and her sister, Mrs. Charles Rozier, also of St. Pauls. Birthday cake, punch and other party foods were served from two tables, centered with mixed spring flowers and burning tapers, by the honoree's granddaughters, Cathy Newton Watts and Lisa Brisson. Mrs. Newton's brother, " Nolan Martin and family of Wilmington, were among those attending from out-of-town. Other relatives and friends from Fayetteville, Wilm ington, New Bern, Lumberton, St. Pauls, Roanoke Rapids and Raeford. Mrs. Newton, well known and a long time resident of Hoke Coun ty, was wished many years of hap piness and health. Mr And Mrs. Gulledge Honored On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Gulledge were honored by their children and grandchildren on Sunday in celebration of their 55th wedding anniversary. Members of the fami ) ly gathered at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Coker, for an abun dant meal at noon. Walker was the scene of a dinner party on Saturday evening, February 26, as a courtesy for Miss Kathy Ashburn and Charles Archer, bride and groom-elect, and Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Cox, recent newlyweds. Hosts and hostesses were Mrs. Neill A. McDonald, Mr. and Mrs. Neill A. McDonald. Ill, Mrs. Crawford Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Crawford Thomas, Jr. Twenty guests were seated at the dining and three smaller tables. Arrangements of pink camellias and candles centered the entertain ing tables. A delicious three course was served. Miss Ashburn and Mrs. Cox were presented pink camellia cor sages and gifts from those honor ing the occasion. Elizabeth C. McNeill Christened On Sunday Elizabeth Cashwell McNeill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neal McNeill, grauddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. McNeill, Jr., and Dr. and Mrs. John C. Ropp, all of Raeford, was christened at the First Presbyterian Church Sunday. Among those from out-of-town coming for the ceremony were the Rev. and Mrs. John C. Ropp, Jr. and three children of Sumter, S.C.; Rev. Ropp is minister of the Westminister Presbyterian Church in Sumter; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ropp of Conway, S.C. and Miss Cecelia Ropp of Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. McNeill is the former Miriam Ropp. Personals Mr. and Mrs. George Maxwell and family of Fuquay- Varina spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. O.B. Maxwell. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Frahm recently returned from Manning, Iowa. They went especially to at tend the funeral services for his mother, Mrs. Emma Frahm. Mr. and Mrs. A1 McFadyen of Sarasota, Florida, were weekend visitors in the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McFadyen. They were en route to Washington, D.C. for a business trip. Mr. McFadyen is Ex ecutive Vice President of the Florida Radio & TV Association. Mrs. Riley Jordan spent last week in Atlanta, Ga. visiting in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Kennedy. She was accompanied home for the weekend by Mrs. Kennedy. Sandy Mansfield of Long Beach spent the weekend in Raeford visiting friends. The Smiths were married Feb. 20. 1938. They have 2 daughters, Mrs. Gerry (Brenda) Kool and Mrs. Joe (Debbie) Shook and one grand daughter (Kimberly) who live in Charlotte. Miss Ashburn, Mr. Archer Honored At Parties In Roanoke Rapids Miss Kathy Ashburn and Charles Archer, whose wedding will take place Saturday, were recently honored at two parties in Roanoke Rapids, hometown of the groom-elect. On Saturday evening, February 19, friends and family members of Mr. Archer were invited to meet the bride-elect at a cocktail party at the Roanoke Valley Country Club. Hosting the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Bunch, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth DeLoatch, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Little, Mrs. Margaret Warren and Fonda Farrell, all of Roanoke Rapids. A variety of hors d'oeuvres were served from a table covered with a Farewell Party Is Given For Calhoun Couple Mr. and Mrs. Robert Calhoun, who have made their home in Raeford for a good many years while he has been connected with Burlington Mills, Inc., will be leav ing to make their home in South Boston, Va., after being transfer red to the plant in Halifax, Va.. were honored at a farewell party on Saturday evening of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Terry Houston and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Phillips entertained at the Houston home. Approximately 25 couples, friends and contemporaries of the Calhouns gathered to show their affection, reminisce and say good bye with good wishes for a suc cessful future. February 12. Valentine hearts and cupids with red and white streamers decorated the Woodman Hall for the affair. Music was furnished by DJ Shelby Jones of Fayetteville. Lester was hostess to the members of her bridge club on Tuesday evening of last week.
