CP&L Is Offering Customers Alternative Payment Plan Carolina Power & Light Co. of fers two free services to residential customers that provide alternative methods for paying electric bills. "Although neither service changes the ultimate amount due, both the equal payment and draft payment plans assist our customers with their budget planning," said CP&L Southern Pines District Manager A.J. Wooddy. "And many customers like the conve nience." The equal payment plan is designed to ease the impact of higher seasonal electric bills by spreading out a customer's payments in equal monthly amounts. ' Under the plan, a customer's bill is estimated for the next 12 months, and the customer is asked to pay one-twelfth of that amount each month instead of the full amount due, Wooddy said. "The monthly payment under the equal payment plan may be ad justed by the company if rates or usage change more than an ticipated during the year," Wood dy said. "Customers will be in formed in advance of any adjust ment in their equal payment schedule." Although the full amount of the electric bill will eventually be paid, the equal payment plan defers some of the co&t to months when usage is normally lower, said Wooddy. A customer may withdraw from participation at any time by con tacting CP&L. Any credit on the account will be refunded by the company. Any amount due must be paid by the customer. The other free service, Wooddy said, is CP&L's draft payment plan. "It gives our customers the opportunity to automatically have their electric bill payments drafted from their checking accounts." Customers may also select the date that CP&L drafts their check ing accounts. The earliest is five days after the billing date and the latest is the past due date.
