SNB 1983 Earnings Up Southern National Corporation reported that its net operating in come (income before security transactions) amounted to $7,725,846 for the year 1983 as compared to $6,892,480 in 1982. On a per share basis this was $3.67 in 1983, an increase of 13<^o above the 1982 figure of $3.25. Net income amounted to $7,401,690 in 1983 versus $6,565,879 in 1982. This amounts to $3.51 on a per share basis in 1983 and $3.10 in 1982, also an in crease of 13^o. For the quarter ended December 31, 1983, the net income before security transactions was Heilig-Meyers Earnings Set Record During 1983 Heilig-Meyers Company, the Richmond based home furnishings chain, which operates a store in Raeford. has announced record earnings and revenues for the third quarter ended December 31, 1983. Earnings increased 48.4<^o to $3,166,000 compared with $2,134,000. Earnings per share rose to 51 cents from 40 cents for the third quarter last year. Revenues for the quarter in creased 22.4?7o to $40.4 million compared with $33.0 million a year ago. For the first nine months, earn ings increased 48. 3 to $8,260,000, or $1.33 per share, compared with $5,571,000, or $1.06 per share, for the same period last year. Nine month revenues exceeded $100 million for the first time, reaching $105.5 million. This is a 1 5 . 4 increase over last year's nine month revenues of $91.4 million. $1,839,089 as compared with $1,902,774 in 1982. This amounted to $.87 per share in 1983, as com pared to $.90 in 1982. The net in come figures were $1,846,550 in 1983 and $1,889,308 in 1982, or $.87 and $.90 on a per share basis. The earnings per share figures for 1983 and 1982 have been restated to give the effect of the five-for-four stock split which oc curred on June 30, 1983. Southern National has three mergers pending with Community Bank of Greensboro, The First Na tional Bank of Anson County, Wadesboro, and Cherryville Na tional Bank, Cherryville. These mergers have been ap proved by the shareholders and are awaiting approval of the regulatory authorities. It is an ticipated that these mergers will be completed by April 1 . Southern National Corporation is a one-bank holding company operating a total of 78 offices located in 35 cities and towns in North Carolina including Raeford. Bailey (left) and Charles F. Coleman (right) both recently completed 25 years unbroken service with the Raeford Plant of Burl ington Industries. They were presented certificates, diamond pins and commemorative gifts. Bailey began work at the firm in the Prepara tion Department as a Service Man. He was transferred to Yarn Man and later was promoted to Slasher Helper. Since 1965, he has worked as a Slasher Tender in the Preparation Department. Coleman started work as a Service Man in the W inding Department. He later was pro moted to Technician and then to Supervisor in 1972. Architects, Engineers and Planners, is the new name for an 80-year-old Scotland County firm. Stogner, a principal in the firm since 1982, has become Vice Presi dent with primary responsibility for supervision of the firm's pro ject work. Donald F. Jordan, a principal in the firm since 1955, is Treasurer and will remain as a consultant for Snowdon, Stogner civil engineer ing projects. Joan A. Ramsey, office super visor since 1971, has been named a principal and is Corporate Secretary of the firm. Her respon sibilities will be office manager and marketing coordinator. The Laurinburg firm, which dates to W. J. Mattews' establish ment of a surveying practice in Laurinburg in 1900, is a major ar chitect of facilities for public schools, colleges and universities, financial institutions and military installations. Stogner, the new Vice President, is a 1973 graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in architecture. Mrs. Ramsey, Corporate Secretary, a native of Laurinburg, attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Hard barger's Business College. Snowdon, President, joined the firm in 1957. He is a 1950 architec ture graduate of Clemson Univer sity. Jordan, a 1938 graduate of Wake Forest University, and a 1948 engineering graduate of North Carolina State University, joined the Laurinburg firm in 1953.
