Hoke Man Gets Jail For DWI A Raeford man was sentenced to spend up to 16 months in jail Fri day after being convicted on a driving while impaired (DWI) in Hoke District Court. Archie Meivin, who had ap parently been convicted of "at least two prior OWI-related charges," was given a no less than 12 months and no more than 18 months in jail by Hoke District Court Judge Warren Pate. Pate also ordered the defendant to surrender his driver's license as part of the sentence. In other action, IS of 21 cases heard in Hoke court last week in volved out-of-towners charged with speeding or traffic-related violations. Stanley Pevia of Wagram plead guilty to a DWI charge and was given a 60-day suspended sentence with one-year of unsupervised pro bation. Pevia was also instructed to per form 48-hours of community ser vice work within 60 days and sur render his license. Pate's sentence also called for the defendant to obtain a substance abuse assessment from the Sandhills Mental Health Center and participate in a recom mended treatment program. Pevia must also enroll and com plete the alcohol and drug abuse school within 90 days as part of his sentence. James Henry Malloy of Laurin burg plead guilty to operating a vehicle without being a licensed driver. The defendant was given a 60-day suspended sentence with six months of unsupervised proba tion. Malloy was also instructed to pay a $75 fine and court cost in the action. Roosevelt F. Hockaday Jr. of Fayetteville plead guilty to speeding (68-SS) and was given a prayer for judgement upon pay ment of the court cost. Jeffrey George Foikins of Carr boro plead guilty to speeding (60-43) and was ordered to pay $10 and cost in the action. Keith L. Godwin of Fayetteville plead guilty to exceeding a safe speed and was given a prayer for judgement upon payment of the court cost. Henry Earl Funderburk of Ft. Bragg plead guilty to speeding (58-45) and was instructed to pay a SIO fine and court cost. Novella Brown of Wagram plead guilty to failing to stop at a stop sign and was ordered to pay a $25 fine and court cost in the ac tion. Stanley Marcus Draughon of Fayetteville plead guilty to speeding (81-55) and was given a 60-day suspended sentence with one year of unsupervised proba tion. Draughon was also instructed to pay a $100 fine and court cost in the action. George Clinton Johnson of Greensboro plead guilty to speeding (70-55) and was ordered to pay a $10 fine and court cost in the action. Clyde Leon Jonas of Charlotte plead guilty to speeding (67-55) and was given a prayer for judge ment upon payment of the court cost. Patricia Lynne Lewis of Hamlet plead guilty to exceeding a safe speed and was fined $25 and court cost in the action. Stephen Brian Shattuck of Fort Bragg plead guilty to speeding (67-55) and was given a prayer for judgement upon payment of the court cost. Ramona Kay Bullard of Fayet teville plead guilty to speeding (68-55) and was given a prayer for judgement upon payment of the court cost. Willie Campbell of Hope Mills plead guilty to speeding (67-55) and was given a prayer for judge ment upon payment of the court cost. In county-related traffic viola tions, only four local residents were sentenced. James Emmett Walker of Rt. 4, Raeford plead guilty to a DWI charge and was given a 60-day suspended sentence with one year of unsupervised probation by Judge Pate. Walker was also instructed to perform 24 hours of community service work within 30 days and enroll and complete the alcohol and drug abuse school within 90 davs. Horace McAllister of Raeford plead guilty to consuming a "malt beverage" in the passenger area of a vehicle. Judge Pate ordered the defen dant to pay a $50 fine and court cost in the action. Iria Lee Purcell of Rt. 1, Raeford plead guilty to a DWI charge and was given a 12-month suspended sentence with two years of supervised probation. Purcell was also instructed to obtain a substance abuse assess ment and participate in a recom- J mened treatment program. - The defendant must also spend | the next "seven weekends" confin- j ed to the Hoke County Jail, accord- i ing to Pate's judgement. Deaths & Funerals A.A. Ray A. A. Ray, 90, of Route 4, Rae ford, died Saturday. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Galatia Pres byterian Church by Dr. David Sutton. Burial was in the church cemeterv. Ray is survived by a son, Thomas Ray of Raeford; a daughter Irma Clipson of Annapolis, Maryland, a sister, Claire Everett of Raeford; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Barium Springs Children's Home, Barium Springs, or to Galatia Presbyterian Church library.
