Man Recovers From Stabbing [j A Racford man was released from Cape Fear Valley Hospital last week following a stabbing that left him wounded, Raeford Police Chief Leonard Wiggins said. Robert Lee Chappell, 23, of East Sixth Street, was wounded in the back last Tuesday after he and another Raeford resident "got into an argument." Ricky Edward Ross, 26, of For rest Street was arrested in connec tion with the stabbing and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. According to Wiggins, a brawl had started before police arrived on the scene last Tuesday after noon. Police received a call around 4 p.m. last Tuesday that indicated a fight was "going on in the vicinity of Fifth and Sixth Street," Wig gins said. "When we arrived we found Chappell had been stabbed in the back," Wiggins said. A shotgun was also recovered during the incident. According to Wiggins, Chappell went back for the shotgun after he had been stabbed. "He was stabbed before he went after the gun," Wiggins said. Hoke Emergency Medical Ser I vices (EMS) workers transported Chappell to Cape Fear Valley Hospital where he was admitted for overnight obsrrvation, Wiggins said. Ross was arrested and released on bond. He is scheduled to appear in Hoke District Court March 2 on the assault charge, Wiggins said. In other city action last week, Billy Lester reported that someone had taken his mother's pocket book from her back porch. According to the chief, Leana Lester of Harris Avenue came home from work last Tuesday and left her purse lying on the back porch while she went to the front yard "to do some work." When Lester returned to the back porch, the purse and its con tents were missing. While on "routine patrol" last Tuesday, Police Officer Clarence Patterson noticed "a lock off the Raeford Plumbing and Heating" gate. After an investigation, Patter son found that a battery had been taken out of one of the trucks, Wiggins said. Last Friday, Humphrey An drews of Johnson Street reported that someone went in his residence while he was at work, taking a piggy bank with SIS in it and doing over $45 damage to a window that was used to gain entry into the residence. In county crime, Lonnie Locklear of Rt. I, Red Springs reported a breaking, entering and larceny to sheriffs deputies. . According to reports, someone entered the Locklear residence by breaking through the door. Nothing was apparently taken during the incident, but $250 damage was done to the door, ac cording to the report. Billy Graham of Rt. 1, Lumber ? Bridge reported a breaking, enter ing and larceny at her residence that netted the alleged intruder over $400 in property, records show. Entry was gained through a win dow between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the reports show. A S350 AM-FM cassette recorder and a $70 black and white television were reported missing from the Graham residence. The case is still under investiga tion, the reports show. Michelle Renee Kelly of Rt. 2, Raeford also reported a breaking, entering and larceny at her residence last Thursday. Reports show that someone ap parently entered the Kelly residence by "kicking" the side door of the dwelling open. On Monday the Hoke Grand Jury found "just cause" to for ward the case on to Superior Court. Locklear was arrested after Cummings was found "lying in the front seat of a station wagon" at the Hoke Rescue Squad Building. Witnesses placed Locklear at the scene of an argument which started at the Locklear residence. Cummings had been shot in the left abdomen, according to reports. Locklear is scheduled to make his first appearance in Hoke Superior Court March 12. In another matter the Hoke Grand Jury also indicted a Raeford man for "uttering a paper with a forged endorsement." Michael McRae, 23, of Stewart Street, had been charged with giv ing Jack Tucker a check "endorsed and belonging to Angela Bease."
