Darlene Clark's fourth grade students visited the Hoke County Public Library last Wednesday morning to do research for the " Facts Pacs" that they are working on for a special project. Elizabeth Burgess, county librarian, instructed the students in the use of the card catalog, reference books, vertical file materials, and periodicals. The students were able to find many excellent sources that will aid them in the production of the "Facts Pac'\ ? Teachers and students are encouraged to use the public library as a resource. The library staff will be delighted to assist students in their research efforts. Darlene Clark and her students are from South Hoke Elementary School. Crafts Display Is Hit By Elizabeth Burgess / We want to thank Betty Gill for allowing us to display some of her crafts from her shop in the library display case. We enjoy having Bet ty share her talent with us and our patrons. We want to thank also Elizabeth Jones, owner of Chic Ceramics, for the beautiful Valen tine display. Betsy McNeill, who is our newest member of the library staff, is really working hard in the area of children's services. She is plan ning story hours, programs, and workshops for pre-school and school age children. She is doing an excellent job and we are delighted to have her working with us. We are getting ready to plan for our Summer Reading Pro gram. Any ideas or suggestions you have, please pass them on to Betsy. Chris Watkins and Olive Jenkins are going to present a concert in the conference room at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2. Please plan to be with us for an afternoon of music. Olive will play the harp and Chris will play the piano. We are looking forward to their coming, and we hope you will plan to join us. 3 Black Walnut Trees Offered By Arbor Group The National Arbor Day Foun dation is giving three free Black Walnut trees to new Foundation members joining during February. The free trees are part of the Foundation's effort lo promote tree planting throughout America. Black \Valnut trees were chosen for this campaign because of their value and versatility, according to the Foundation. The Walnut trees bear sweet, edible nuts, and they are also used for shade trees, grow ing to 80-100 feet. The Foundation makes its spring shipments between February I and May 31, depending on the local climate and this year's weather. The trees are guaranteed to grow, or they will be replaced free by the Foundation. Bernhardt Leaving Raeford To Head Forrest City Plant Raeford Menswear Dying Plant Manager Gib Bernhardt has been transferred to Forrest City by Burl ington Industries, a company spokesman said. The move is part of several organizational shifts made at the plant in Raeford. Bernhardt has been named Plant Manager of the J.C. Cowan Plant lcoated in Forest City. He joined the Dyeing Plant in 1968 and has served as Plant Manager since 1974. The J.C. Cowan Plant is also part of the Menswear Division. Frank Sessoms, Production Superintendent, has been named Plant Manager of the Dyeing Plant, replacing Bernhardt. Sessoms has been at the Dyeing White promoted Ralph E. White has recently been promoted to Production Manager of the Raeford Plant, Menswear Division, Burlington Industries, Inc. He was assigned to the Raeford Plant in 1976 as Department Manager of Weaving. White joined Burlington in 1968 as a Manufacturing Management Trainee at the Worsted Plant in Drakes Branch, Virginia. Between that time and his ar rival at Raeford he held posi tions as supervisor of Weav ing, Winding, Twisting and Spinning; Department Manager of Sample Manufac turing with responsibilities for Weave, Preparation and Cloth; and Superintendent of Sample Manufacturing. He is a native of Van, West Virginia and 1965 graduate of Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia.
