UDC ladies hold March meeting The March meeting of the Raeford United Daughters of the Confederacy was held on the 9th at the home of Mrs. Mary McNeill with Mrs. Eliza Bullard, co hostess. Mrs. Pauline Pittman led the devotional. Mrs. Treva Koonce, the president, presided and led the Ritual, Allegiance and salutes to the flags. Plans were made for a memorial to Shiloh Church in memory of Ronald Chesnutt. His grand mother, Mrs. W.L. McFadyen, is a member of the chapter. The President announced that the District meeting would be April 5 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville. Mrs. Eliza Bullard will be the chapter's page. A letter from the President of the N.C. Division Children of the Confederacy was read. This urged the chapter's interest and par ticipation in chartering and spon soring a chapter. These young folks will be the future members of the U.D.C. and S.C.V. chapters. Mrs. Lorenna Phillips reported on the new books that the chapter is giving the county library. Miss Josephine Hall announced that the Hoke Arts Festival is being planned for May 3 and 4. "Hoke County Heritage" will be the topic. Mrs. Lillian Wood reported that the essays from Hoke High School would be ready by April 1st. "The Fall of New Orleans," the program topic for the month - was presented by Mrs. Aline Wright. This was most instructive and in teresting. The president announced that the shower of articles, carried to the February meeting, for the Veteran's Hospital had been delivered. Miss Isabel McFadyen read the poem, "Dreaming in the Trenches." Mr. and Mrs. Inman attended Hoke County High School. Mr. Inman is presently employed by Raeford Plumbing and Heating. After a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach, the couple will reside at 111 Meadow Lane in Raeford. Valerie Purdie honor guest Valerie Purdie, April 8 bride elect, was honored with a miscellaneous bridal shower on March 6 at United Carolina Bank. Hostesses were co-workers of Miss Purdie. Upon arrival, she and her mother were given corsages of white carnations. A buffet of fried chicken, ham, potato salad, fruit salad, green beans and iced tea was served to approximately 25 guests. After gifts were opened and displayed, guests were served cake, nuts and mints. Sorial Reporter, 875-4562 Burlington Boys' Choir to sing here Sunday The Burlington Boys' Choir will present a program of sacred music Sunday, March 18 at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Raeford Presbyterian Church. This group is the oldest organization of its kind in North Carolina to have been continuously sustained in training and performance. The choir con sists of forty boys between the ages of eight and fourteen and was organized in 1959 by their present director, Miss Eva Wiseman. There have been almost four hundred boys to have participated in the choir since its founding. In December of 1983, the choir sang at the White House in celebration of their silver anniver sary. This summer they will be singing in Japan as part of their tour. Bridal shower is given for T eresa McKenzie Teresa Ann McKenzie was honored with a bridal shower March 10, at Sandy Grove Church. Hostesses were the ladies of San dy Grove Church. Teresa was presented with a cor sage of two white silk roses upon her arrival. The refreshment table was covered witha yellow table cloth and topped with a white lace cloth. A centerpiece of candelabra, candles, jonquils and yellow bells, decorated the table. The gift table was covered with a white linen table cloth. ? Punch, cake squares, nuts and mints were served to the guests as they arrived. After refreshments were served, the bride-elect opened and displayed her gifts. Mr. and Mrs David Davies an nounce the birth of a daughter. Amber Nicole on February 8. Mrs. Davies is the former Margaret Rogers. The choir prepares three types of programs each year: Christmas, sacred, and secular. They rehearse four times a week during the school year. Their repertoire in cludes choral literature ranging from early church music to music of the twentieth century. The purpose of this choir is to exhibit standards of musical ex cellence in performance and to maintain a living choral tradition in North Carolina worthy of the community and of the state. This musical presentation is made possible through the Music Ministry and the Music Committee of the Raeford Presbyterian Church. It is free and open to the public.
