. . .Robbery probed
(Continued from page I A)
Branch did not know who had
taken the jewelry or how it had
disappeared. Wiggins said.
The case was under investiga
tion.
Authorities at Hoke High
School reported over $200 in van
dalism and larceny at the Hoke
football stadium last week.
Wiggins said that someone had
broken a window in the ticket
booth, pried open the doors to an
outdoor storage room, "snatched
loose" telephone lines near the an
nouncer's booth and "smashed a
weed eater."
The case was under investiga
tion, Wiggins said.
Artis O. Jones of North Jackson
Street reported a breaking and
entering that netted the alleged in
truder a pistol and an assortment
of food and meats, Wiggins said.
According to Wiggins, someone
gained access to the Jones'
residence by breaking a window
and entering from the outside.
The case was open for investiga
tion.
In county crime last week, Faye
S. McMillian reported that some
one had entered the Upchruch
Junior High band room and took
"parts of her daughter's" drum
set.
The sheriff's report shows that
someone apparently broke a locker
chain to gain access, taking a SIS
snare drum pad, a SIS drum stand
and other assorted drum parts.
The case was under investiga
tion, reports show.
Michael Steven Hubbard of Rt.
2, Raeford reported that someone
took a .22 caliber magnum blue
steel pistol from his residence.
The pistol had reportedly been
hanging on the wall of the Hub
bard residence.
Reports show that Hubbard did
not know when the pistol was
taken or who might have taken it.
The case was under investiga
tion.
J.W. Jones of Rt. 1, Lumber
Bridge reported that someone had
"kicked open" his back door and
entered his residence.
According to the report, Jones
discovered the break-in when he
returned from work.
Cabinet doors and bedroom
drawers had been left open in the
residence, the reports shows.
Two kitchen chairs, a couch
cover and a half bottle of whiskey
were taken during the incident, ac
cording to the report.
James Baxley of Rt. 4, Raeford
reported that someone "forced"
his front door open and took over
$1,400 in property.
Reports show that a color televi
sion, a 12-gauge shotgun, a .22
caliber rifle, a 12-gauge automatic
shotgun, a clock radio, a gold
watch and S50 in silver coins.
Reports also show that there was
$175 damage done to Baxley's pro
perty.
Grocery dropped
as payment site
for LREMC bills
Caddell's Grocery on Stewart
Street in Raeford will no longer be
accepting payments for Lumbee
River EMC electric bills.
According to LREMC
spokesman Lane Hudson, the
question of security and safety was
raised by the present owners
following an armed robbery on
Saturday.
"We hope that the members will
understand the reasoning for their
benefit," said Hudson. "The
owners are concerned for the
patrons' safety."
According to Hudson, Lumbee
River EMC does not presently
have a collection agency in
Raeford.
Members can pay their bills
through the mail using the self
addressed envelope enclosed with
their bills or at one of the offices.
The Red Springs Office and the
Lake Rim Offices are open Mon
day through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5
p.m.
There are also depositories for
after hours and weekend
payments.
