The races consisted of a two mile and a five mile race, and were sponsored by Hardee's of Spartan burg and the Spartanburg Herald Journal. In the two-mile run, the RoadRunners' Don Woods took second place overall in a field of 89 runners by breaking the tape in a time of 10:58. The RoadRunners garnered four awards in the five-mile race. In the 12 and under age division, the team swept the top three awards. in first place was Ronnie E. Locklear who clocked in a time of 29:54. Ronnie's time placed him 11th overall in a field of 153 runners. Second place in the division was captured by Ivory Henderson who crossed the line in 30:00 for a 13th place overall finish. The third place award went to Chris Locklear whose time of 32:12 was good enough for a 23rd place overall finish. In the 13-17 year old age divi sion, Marty Locklear took second place with a time of 31:38 and finished 22nd overall. Carpenter leads Buck track hopes Hoke High Buck runner Tarrell Carpenter was one of the only "bright spot" for the local track team during a meet last week. The Hoke runner won the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.78, the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.6 and the long jump event with a distance of 21 feet 9 inches. Carpenter also ran on the win ning 400 meter relay team that cap tured the event with a time of 45.5. Although Carpenter scored three first place honors, the Buck team was downed by the three other competing teams. The Buck runners finished the meet with 38 points while Fayet teville's Seventy-First High School completed the meet with 101 points. The Buck 400 meter relay team ran its best time Thursday with a time of 45.50. Recreation Bits Flea market A Spring Flea Market is being planned for Saturday, April 14, 9:00-5:00 on the big field left of the old National Guard Ar mory. The first 30 to reserve a space through the Recreation Of fice at 875-5603, will be able to participate. No charge. Mens' softball meeting An organizational meeting for those interested in playing in the Mens' Softball League will be held on Monday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recreation Office.
