Sports Buck teams shine Hoke High teams had a good week capturing wins in almost every sport. The Hoke High girls' softball team beat E.E. Smith by a score of 14-10 on Thursday. The Lady Bucks took the lead in the first inning and never relin quished it. The win brings the Lady Bucks' season record to 2-10 and the con ference record to 2-4. The boys' freshman baseball team took one Thursday from Ellerbee, 7-5 and another Friday from Reed Ross, 9-7. The boys' tennis team also came Tennis Assoc. The Hoke Tennis Association has begun plans for 1984 by having an ice cream social at the McLauchlin Park Tennis Courts Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m. All members and prospective members of all ages are welcome to attend and make an afternoon of fun and fellowship. Dues may be paid at this time. The purpose of the Hoke Tennis Association is to promote and en courage the sport of tennis; to organize and promote tennis tour naments, clinics and other similar activities for the benefit of the members of the association and for the general benefit of the com munity; to promote among the people in the community the theory and practice of the prin ciples of good citizenship; to en courage and sponsor the youth in the community in the sport of ten nis and to foster good will and ptiblic relations. The members of the Executive Board are Carol Holland, Presi out on top, putting together what coach Andy Brown called "an outstanding team effort, to win their match with E.E. Smith, 6-3. The tennis team is now 4-4 in the conference and 4-3 overall. Finally, the ninth grade softball took a pair on Thursday and Fri day by first beating Ellerbee 17-9 and Reed Ross 7-0. The Buckettes battle back from a second inning deficit of 6-1 to take Ellerbee by slamming 15 hits. A wiener roast will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a brief business meeting, family fun and games. The Hoke Tennis Association needs your support. (Photo by Terry Houston) Special Olympics on tap for Hoke High Thursday The 1984 Special Olympics, sponsored by the Division for Ex ceptional Children of the Hoke County Schools will be held Thurs day, April 19 at the Hoke High Stadium. This will be the ninth an nual event for these special athletes. The grand march will begin at 9 ^ a.m. led by members of the Hoke High Band. Each school will be represented in the parade. From J.W. Sign-ups will take place at Armory Park on April 23-26 (Monday-Thursday) from 4-6 p.m. All potential players must bring $3 to cover registration fees, before they will be allowed to sign-up. Participants are also requested to bring birth cer tificates, even if they have participated in a Recreation spon sored event prior to this season.
