Buck teams shine
Hoke High teams had a good
week capturing wins in almost
every sport.
The Hoke High girls' softball
team beat E.E. Smith by a score of
14-10 on Thursday.
The Lady Bucks took the lead in
the first inning and never relin
quished it.
The win brings the Lady Bucks'
season record to 2-10 and the con
ference record to 2-4.
The boys' freshman baseball
team took one Thursday from
Ellerbee, 7-5 and another Friday
from Reed Ross, 9-7.
The boys' tennis team also came
Tennis Assoc.
The Hoke Tennis Association
has begun plans for 1984 by having
an ice cream social at the
McLauchlin Park Tennis Courts
Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m.
All members and prospective
members of all ages are welcome to
attend and make an afternoon of
fun and fellowship. Dues may be
paid at this time.
The purpose of the Hoke Tennis
Association is to promote and en
courage the sport of tennis; to
organize and promote tennis tour
naments, clinics and other similar
activities for the benefit of the
members of the association and for
the general benefit of the com
munity; to promote among the
people in the community the
theory and practice of the prin
ciples of good citizenship; to en
courage and sponsor the youth in
the community in the sport of ten
nis and to foster good will and
ptiblic relations.

coach Andy Brown called "an
outstanding team effort, to win
their match with E.E. Smith, 6-3.
The tennis team is now 4-4 in the
conference and 4-3 overall.
Finally, the ninth grade softball
took a pair on Thursday and Fri
day by first beating Ellerbee 17-9
and Reed Ross 7-0.
The Buckettes battle back from
a second inning deficit of 6-1 to
take Ellerbee by slamming 15 hits.
In the game, Tina Brewer went 3
for 4, Nancy Singletary 3 for 5,
Jackie Hunt 2 for 3 and Regina
Oxendine 2 for 2.

Special Olympics on tap
for Hoke High Thursday
The 1984 Special Olympics,
sponsored by the Division for Ex
ceptional Children of the Hoke
County Schools will be held Thurs
day, April 19 at the Hoke High
Stadium. This will be the ninth an
nual event for these special
athletes.
The grand march will begin at 9 ^
a.m. led by members of the Hoke
High Band. Each school will be
represented in the parade. From

Umpire meeting
Anyone interested in umpiring Bambino League (10-12)
Baseball, Babe Ruth (13-13) Biueball, Men's and Women's Soft
ball games should make plans to attend our officials' organiza
tional meeting/clinic on Wednesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. in the
Recreation Office. Parnell Miles, from Fayetteville, will conduct
the meeting. For additional information, please contact the

Easter egg hunt
An Easter egg hunt, sponsored by the Recreation Commis
sion, will be held on Saturday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m. at
McLauchlin Park. (Behind McLauchlin Elementary School).
This event is free and is open to those ages 2-8 only. Parents or
guardians are requested to accompany the child.
Karate
For those interested in the martial arts, classes are currently
being held in the room above Howell's Drug Store on Main
Street. Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m.
Cost is $25 per month for instruction plus insurance fee. ($5 for
ages 18 and under, $10 for those 19 years or older. Insurance is
good for one year from date paid, and needs to be turned in at
the recreation office). For more information, please call

Men's softball
The Parks and Recreation Commission is sponsoring a Men's
Softball League for all interested men ages 16 and up. If you are
interested in entering a team in the league or just playing
yourself, contact the Recreation Office at 5-5603. The season is
set to start May 1 at Armory Park. The deadline for a team's en
try is Friday, April 27 at 5 p.m.
Babe Ruth baseball
The Parks and Recreation Commission is organizing a Babe
Ruth Baseball League for all interested participants ages 13-15.
Players eligible are those whose 16th birthday comes on or after
August 1 or whose 13th birthday comes on or before August 1.
Sign-ups will take place at Armory Park on April 23-26
(Monday-Thursday) from 4-6 p.m. All potential players must
bring $3 to cover registration fees, before they will be allowed to
sign-up. Participants are also requested to bring birth cer
tificates, even if they have participated in a Recreation spon
sored event prior to this season.
Bambino baseball
The Recreation Commission is organizing a Babe Ruth Bam
bino League for all interested participants ages 10-12. Players
eligible are those whose 12th birthday comes on or after August
1 or whose 10th birthday comes on or before August 1.

(Monday-Thursday) from 4:00-6:00 p.m. All potential players

There will be a meeting for all interested Babe Ruth Baseball
(13-15) Coaches at the Recreation Office on Monday, April 30 at
7 p.m. Suggestions and ideas are encouraged.
Bambino coaches meeting
There will be a meeting for all interested Babe Ruth Bambino
Baseball (10-12) Coaches at the Recreation Office on Tuesday,
May 1 at 7 p.m. Bring your ideas and suggestions to the meeting.
Liniment softball meeting
The Recreation Committion will hold an organizational
meeting for the Men's Liniment Softball League (ages 30-up) on
Wednesday, May 9 at 7 p.m. in the Recreation Office. All in
terested teams should have a representative present.
Women's Softball Meeting
An organizational meeting will be held for those interested in
playing in the Women's Softball League (ages 16-up) on
Wednesday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recreation Office. All in
terested teams should have a representative present.
