Reading to class
Former Hoke County School Superintendent Raz Autry reads children's
stories he has written to members of Maxine Colston's fourth grade class
at Scurlock.
Scurlock students
hear loeal writers
Maxine Colston's Fourth Grade
at Scurlock School has been study
ing poetry in their literature
classes. They invited Robert Gatlin
to visit their class. He recited
poems he had written as well as
ones he had memorized. He stress
ed the importance of memorizing
poetry at an early age and of
creating ones of their own.
Mrs. Colston's class also invited
a community resource person to
talk with them about being a writer
of children's stories.
Raz Autry discussed and read
some stories he has written for
children and told them about the
children's book he is planning and
is presently writing.
Both visits were beneficial and
helped the students better under
stand poetry and the process of be
ing a writer.
Singing at McCain
These members of the South Hoke Fourth-Grade Chorus, under the
direction of Mrs. Miriam McNeill, sang at McCain hospital recently.
Accompanying the group to McCain were Hank Richards, school
principal, and Mrs. Darlene Clark, fourth-grade teacher.
